What a troll suggestion...
What was trolling about his suggestion?
I don't understand what's "troll" about @cspd's suggestion but anyway... I use RealVNC. I don't pay anything for 3 Macs and it works pretty well.

I used anydesk daily for personal stuff, recently some annoying popup shown asking for paid subscription, just like teamviewer.
It sounds like AnyDesk, much like TeamViewer, has detected usage patterns that they associate with commercial use, even though you're using it for personal purposes. This is a common issue with remote desktop software that offers both free and paid services. The algorithms they use to determine whether a user is commercial or personal aren't perfect and can sometimes flag personal users incorrectly.
I feel like NoMachine is the alternative. But x2go is the closest open source solution in performance and functionality. I prefer both over paid solutions.
In the end, I went with NoMachine. It's excellent!
Agreed. But x2go cannot do a macOS server, which was what my needs were.
Take a seat. Get comfortable. Read a little history.
Then, take a look at who is involved with RustDesk, and who is not. Ask yourself , "Why? Why not?"
Time for lunch! As you sit down to enjoy a meal...It hits you...
Better yet: it's easy to setup your own relay server...
How did you get past this issue to continue using AnyDesk?
Careful with any remote control software that‘s hosted in somewhere not in your reach.
AnyDesk for example just got hacked recently. Self-hosted is definitely the superior solution.
For business use it’s ok (e.g. client support) but not for accessing private machines. Me personally, I don’t like the feeling of someone I don’t know having permissions to do stuff on my computers. With AnyDesk and TeamViewer it’s just an unencrypted string.
For now it only ask for subscription with a 2mins timer popup at the beginning of session connect, still can use it freely
Sadly commercial remote software almost do not provide self-hosted option. Better use VPN if security matters
I really like Jump Desktop. Really low audio latency and very fast.
Remote Utilities has a self hosted server free even for commercial use up to 10 machines.
man.. ho lee sheet.
