Should I just use Redis Object Cache plugin for WordPress, or should I manually setup Redis for Wordpress?

Use plugins.. go with the ecomsystem .. what they do you do.. for better tutorials and help later.

Yah, just completed setup. Some weird permission error was blocking it. Fixed now.

    running it on vps?

Yup. Trying it on the Ryzen.

any odd errors running on the ryzen? Like issues from using the different cpu vs the vcpus? Ryzen gives you a true dedicated core right?

Yah, I believe it is a dedi core. Anyways, no issues yet. I have had the same projects running on both the Intel and Ryzen. Yet to see any compatibility issues.

BTW, I am loving the RackNerd Ryzen VPS. Coming from older Intel Xeons, this is a definite upgrade for me. The core usage doesn't go above 1% most of the time. First time I am seeing that. Would recommend the Ryzens for anyone looking for some raw power.

I already have one.. in LA though.

Oh yah, the one you applied all your GA upgrades to. How's it?

4c, 5G at the moment. ITs good. .

That'd be a beast among VPSes now. You bought it last year right?

Its 3900x ryzen. If its 7950x , then it would be different.

Ok. 7950X is out of stock anyways. But, 3900X is pretty great as well. Wonder how the 9950X will perform.

9950x is just awesome. Seen some YABS in other threads. Those are insane

    Providers already started providing it?

Yup. Seen some in mega thread, and someone posting yabs as well.

Oh, I see. Waiting for RackNerd's 9950X VPSes!

You can buy a dedi then with all the credits. :D

Hell yeah, but, trying to be careful with it. I don't wanna go all crazy and then be left with no credits when it actually matters

I follow same. Buy only whats necessary.

Yah, wish we were taught basic financial management skills in school.

Agreed. Schools really lacking in this respect

Nah, Took your recommendation and happy with Nginx now. Loving it infact. Went with the Redis Object Cache plugin. Just completed setting it up.

How's it looking, w3tc is a good one for nginx users been using myself on some websites.

Since Redis is already setup (again you recommended that and I am loving it), I decided to use it instead of any others.

nice that it came with it ready to go. Really a good tool and good to have around if you roll custom later on

Ryzen works best for WordPress, i have seen amazing performance on Intel i9 as well.

He needs to get a dedi with i9 for wordpress? :D

    If doing Woocommerce then perhaps...

Woocommerce itself is a bad idea.

But it works if it works......

I don't know, I don't like it somehow. But normal customers feels different may be. Once I used OpenCart, magenta etc for testing.. But somehow, woo feels heavy

It is heavy, but if you strip the front end and use it as backend things changes drastically. After the introduction of wpgraphql even I find myself tempted 🙂

And you need to build a front end of site?

That's how it goes, build one in vue or react and you get one heck of a fast web shop.

In that case, we have lots of options.

    Both are Javascript derivatives right?

Frameworks in javascript.. like laravel, cakephp etc for php..

Oh, got it. Never used any frameworks yet

It will take time.. go slowly.

slow and steadywins the race. Just as we have seen time and time again

Don't worry, the flash sale you won was great as well, given the price. I tried to get it, but, they ran out pretty quick. Infact, if I had it already, I won't have thought of getting this Ryzen.

Yah, I believe I had a similar setup. Only that they decided to get me Win 98 with it, not even XP.

Why 98? I got it with XP. I used to format the system everymonth and reinstall the OS, to increase the PERFORMANCE.. 🤣🤣

Yah, remember the time, we used to measure a PC's performance based on the number of times the XP loading bar moved before desktop loaded?

Oh yeah. I spent most of the time tuning the PC than using it. Funny days.. :p

Remember the application - SpeedumyPC and bviously, RAM Downloader?!!

Ha ha I remembered them all. And the flashy gif ads on websites with Download Ram ...

Missing downloading more RAM now. 🤣🤣

LOL! How many times have we been fooled by that.

Ha ha. Somehow I never fell for that though. I was mad for PCs at that time and read a lot about them. I've been reading about computers since 98 iirc, even though I don't have a computer. I love computers.

Not for the RAM Downloader. Oh no, never fell for that. But, I did fall for SpeedupmyPC.

    Those are sweet memories.

The only thing Windows still keeping from those days is the BSOD.

 And, the thing is they did virtually nothing to fix those BSODs. Instead what'd they do? Redesigned the BSOD page.

atleast its not the same BSOD anymore!

LOL! Youa re right. The new design makes it look less threatening and scary

BSOD is light heart attack anyway..

Oh yeah, especially when you have something important going on.

They happen only when we have important work.

Oh yes. Interestingly, similar amount of work doesn't cause a kernel panic on Linux.

    Linux kernel is solid..

Wish Windows learned something from Linux.

it did, WSL wasn't born from capitalistic mindsets

Was using WSL for quite some time. It was infact WSL that pushed me to install Linux as my primary OS.

Here's how I do things, windows for everything and a dedicated mini pc for Linux 😁

I'da gone for that as well. But, somewhere along the way, I got tired of MS's shenanigans. Ask xpress, he alsmot softbricked his Win 11 laptop trying to update.

was it nearly bricked just from the 10->11 update they ask you to do?

That would have been kinda ok, but, this I believe was a routine Win 11 update only.

Yup price is the most tempting one.. for an Apple.. for first time.

Yah, guess, someone at Apple finally decided to listen to people's most common complaint.

maybe they just finally completly saturated the market and everyone was exhausted. perhaps picking off the only market they have left

As me and TrK discussing above.. when something works.. don't touch it..

If they touch core code.. they will definetly kill thousands of systems worldwide.. :p

Yah, that's the issue. They definitely have the moola to try things out before sending out these updates. But, recently, they have been sending these updates without due diligence. Forget us, what about critical enterprises that use their OS?

I think they are on a different release ccycle. They can suppress it with policies and also have windows server to work with? Thats still a thing right?..

I guess so. But, we all remember the recent update brick fiasco, that even shut down airports at many places.

Backend? what languages you are using?

PHP, always. Too dumb to go for Python.

Php is great for web. I use it for work.

    What framework/cms you are using?

For the blog, WordPress. No other frameworks, just plain old PHP.

    Rocking wordpress.. kk. go.

My favourite CMS. The customisability is what I love the most about them.

Yup, and they have big ecosystem too. So good choice.

Yup, a strong community means great plugins.

It is.. thats the main strong point of wordpress. There is millions of busines around it..

Oh yah. I believe a vast majority of the internet is WP.

    43.6% of all websites

Yah, that's the value. Every other stats website claims a slightly different value, but, that's the average.

The stats vary. But you can be sure that, most of the websites are build by it.

Oh yeah. WordPress, understandably is very popular.

Hence, your decision to go with is good, esp for a beginner. B)

Oh no. Been using WP for almost 10 years now.

so you must have seen it as it evolved all through out these years. Are they going in a good direction? Just leetting the current design run?

Never used their default themes for the front end. As for the backend, I love how it is arranged, and would discourage any major change to it.

Well idk never had issues unless I myself made the mess...

Yah, infact even I haven't had any major issues. But, there were a few minor issues in Windows 11 (easily fixable with an update) that stayed on for too long. Thus, I jumped the gun and made the best move of my life.

i thinkt he only time i had issues with an update is when i unplugged and the battery died. Kind of my fault in a way

Yah, it's a rare occurrence, but, something you might never see on Linux.

Yup. Atlesat now they should include that in curriculum.

probably the one skill that is applicabel across all professions yet its not taught

TrK recommended both Memcached and Redis, but did say Redis was better. Noticed a few ms difference for the better with Redis. That's why I decided to stick with Redis. Might notice a hell lotta difference after large data is populated.

It will be fine believe me 🙂

Hope I don't run out of RAM

    Download more.. :D

    LOL! Available on Linux?

Yup. Use the command. apt install ram --size=N

LOL! Heard you could get unlimited RAM by running this command as root:-
    rm -rf /

Yup ran it successfully multiple times. You too run it on your servers after ram fill up. :p

Planning to run it after the debug session is complete.

    :p :p

I hope no one has made that mistake ever. Never tried to run the command. Wonder if every distro warns when that command is run

Never tried either . May be I will try in some vm.

    mine didnt warn

If I am not wrong, e got about 2GB RAM in upgrades and a core as well. He applied it all to his Ryzen VPS.

Obviously.. they need money. If something works.. why touch it breaking some and spoil the income?

The philosophy, if it works don't touch it

    Wisdom words.. B)

I followed that, until I didn't. But, never on production environment.

    Its the mantra for production..

Who am I kidding, I even mess up things in production on my personal projects from time to time.

accidents happen, whats important is you learn how to better yourself after them

Yes, learning from each experience as we speak.
