Oh yeah, @SilverCreek delivery my giveaway!!!!!!!! Thank you so much @SilverCreek !!!!

    Merry Christmas ๐ŸŽ„ยก!!!!!!!!!

So what's your score so far...
    Paid and giveaways in 2024...

I would have to check and get back to you at a later stage as my inbox is still filled with order confirmations I haven't actually opened. Giveaways, about 5 I think and they're awesome.

Payed for, definitely close to 40. Got big plans for 2025 :)

Attempted to put a web scraper onto my vps. The setup is apparently more than 5 clicks and involves additional crap to deal with javascript that SPAs love so much. Gimme back my plain old HTML ๐Ÿ˜…

What scraper? Care to share some insights pls?

Seems interesting to try out for the new year

So I deployed Huginn (honestly a piece of shit and I'm better off making scripts in bash than using that) and hoped the SSRed version of the website in question would contain the datapoints I want. Sadly, it obly contains the wireframe and the actual data is loaded with JS.

I'm planning to run some Playwright to overcome this. Maybe using browserless container, maybe not. Still TBD.

This project is quickly growing in complexity and I'm already stretching myself too thin. Prioritization round inbound โ˜บ๏ธ

You'd be surprised at how many people purchase VPSes and don't even bother to install them. To date, we have over 60 VMs with allocated resources, sitting for over 30 days, with no OS installed on them. Truly defining idling resources.

Honestly, we'd rather at least they install the OS. In the past, when someone has bought and not even installed and OS for >128 days, we ask them if they'd like a refund so we can re-provision the resources if they don't want/intend/need to utilize them. Some people simply forgot they paid for it, some had a project die, and almost all appreciate that we asked them.

Idler is the best neighbor ๐Ÿ˜

Shutdown is the best neighbor, but that goes too far.

You'd be surprised at how many people purchase VPSes and don't even bother to install them. To date, we have over 60 VMs with allocated resources, sitting for over 30 days, with no OS installed on them. Truly defining idling resources.

    reguards

    Now it's just 59 without an OS ๐Ÿ˜… @SilverCreek

So what's your score so far...
    Paid and giveaways in 2024...

I would have to check and get back to you at a later stage as my inbox is still filled with order confirmations I haven't actually opened. Giveaways, about 5 I think and they're awesome.

Payed for, definitely close to 40. Got big plans for 2025 :)

    LowEndCDN?

Cdn, dns. Nothing resource heavy. I'm a good neighbour.

This is kind of wild to think of to me. I get installing and maybe just installing a monitor to see how things look over a period of time before jump into it with real-world-usage but not even installing anything???? wow.

Those are the best customers to have

Honestly, we'd rather at least they install the OS. In the past, when someone has bought and not even installed and OS for >128 days, we ask them if they'd like a refund so we can re-provision the resources if they don't want/intend/need to utilize them. Some people simply forgot they paid for it, some had a project die, and almost all appreciate that we asked them.

That's a very nice thing of you to do.

It's about establishing a relationship with your customers. You seem to get it. Not a lot of businesses do this day and age.

    +1 @SilverCreek

It's nice. Yet somewhat disturbing. My six year old does that dance. Time to limit screen time.

    O dear lord.
    For real?

Yes for real. She navigates through TikTok like a pro. Uses ai to edit her videos. Thank got that shit Doesnt get published.

"Australia will ban children under 16 from using social media, after its parliament approved the world's strictest laws."

    How will anyone enforce this?

Did it ever work for the Porn sites? How hard is it to respond to the question "Are you over 18?"

Plus the minds are trained for mindless scrolling.. 16 years is too long of a habit to break.

Maybe the social media companies call it a day? But where will the boomers get their news source?

Sorry I get on the ted talk mode sometime

But in all seriousness this is a condition which is just not easy to tame.

No worries. I fool around a lot but this is a serious issue. Toddlers are being prepped by the likes of Cocomelon and such.

You think it's harmless. It's not.

Then there's youtube. It consumes the human soul of our children. Not even taking into consideration TikTok.

There are positives. I have a lot of foreign family so it's easiest to communicate in English or German. Freakin 6 year old learned most online. She can conversate in German and English fluently.

    Insanity.

    The pluses are there.
But somehow I feel the negatives outweigh the positive at a grander scale

There needs to be responsible and collective action. But definitely not something a government should dictate. They usually seem to lack the collective eill to do good.

I don't blame parents as this allows them to get some personal time and to get some things done. Someone may take thus the wrong way but it is what it is.

Most definitely. I'm at 45 min/day screen time max. That includes playing Roblox :)

Again, insanity. Sometimes I'm thinking about moving abroad, going off the grid. I love Scandinavia so yeah... Who knows.

Fortunately my kid loves loves being outdoors, messing about with whatever. Stirring up shit with the neighbours :) she'd love that space and freedom which you don't have here, or is quite unaffordable here. The dog would probably also love it.

I think it's interesting that the closer one is to IT, the more protective one is of their family towards IT. I don't let my kids near social media, or even unsupervised YouTube. They can have curated content from a local Tube equivalent.

Some of my idlers I haven't even logged into for over 2 years. So...

Problem is that they weren't intended to be idlers, but they were bought so I could run my app backend in lots of places so latency to the phone app wasn't terrible, but I keep getting other contract work in that takes up all my time, so I still haven't actually launched the app.

PS, don't forget my 6/6/66. I promise I'll log into it at least 6 times every 66 days. ;)
