Man, Docker is a bit to get started with, but, very useful it seems. Was planning on installing a LEMP server as an alternative to XAMPP, which was my go to on Windows. But, decided to give Docker a try, to help isolate things. After a lot of trial and error, got a LEMP server running on an Ubuntu Docker container. I know that I could get these packages separately (PHP, MySQL, etc.) as Docker images. But, I wanted to try it out like this. Next up, might try to get it working on Alpine.

Yup, installing them one by one. But, have no experience with them yet. This is mostly applicable for GUI apps on Windows. Glad that I moved to Linux though, as most of the time for my projects I have had to use either WSL or a VM. This would be much better, I guess.

I did use Xubuntu years ago, and did like it. But, have used Lubuntu more than Xubuntu in the past few years. Hence the choice.

Yes, was a bit difficult with the setup, especially moving files and converting the partitions to ext4. I prefer that over NTFS. Currently, moving files on a 5400RPM HDD, so, you know, it's frustrating.

No. On an NVMe. Just had a few files on HDD, especially the VM's VDIs. Was a struggle backing them up and then moving them.

Yup, VDIs are big and take lots of time to move, esp if you store them in single file like me.

I just tarred the important files within each of these VDIs. They themselves were pretty large.

What do you run on those VMs?

Every one of my Linux projects including builds of kernels and some distros was done on those VMs.

See. Most people just think of these as simple little boxes, but, that's not always the case. It's not a well known fact that, gaming consoles are often packed with good, if not the best hardware. But, proprietary tech and lack of open source drivers makes them good enough, just for gaming. It's also a lesser known fact that Sony usually sells the consoles itself at a loss. Their profits comes from games and accessories.

The newer hardware got vendor locked and project got rizzed big time, the condor project was a fun to read back in the days but if i remember correctly they were utlising PS3 not PS3s as stated by the above link, i know about sony doing that and also xbox one was the game changer in console markets. At that time that was thought provoking but nowadays i see more price friendly computing power cheaper than consoles(apple silicon), with apple unified memory powering their CPU + GPU i would say it's much more better than a ps or xbox, and now when we are seeing EPYC and ampere delivering some high core count CPUs the difference will keep increasing. The condor cluster project was good initiative but i wouldn't trust Sony PS for my serious work at all.

It's easy and damn easy if you are into portainer or something, I would have just installed yunohost and left everything to it's UI or maybe easypanel, well it works if it works.

No, these were stacked PS3s not a single one, back when Sony stuck to their OtherOS support promise. You are right, if I need a PC, a PlayStation won't be the one I get for it. I am just saying though that it won't be fair to just disregard them, cause if in the future these companies do unlock them or maybe make a bit of the source available, it'd be, if not a PC alternative, a decent PC/gamig console.

Yup, installing them one by one. But, have no experience with them yet. This is mostly applicable for GUI apps on Windows. Glad that I moved to Linux though, as most of the time for my projects I have had to use either WSL or a VM. This would be much better, I guess.

I did use Xubuntu years ago, and did like it. But, have used Lubuntu more than Xubuntu in the past few years. Hence the choice.

Yes, was a bit difficult with the setup, especially moving files and converting the partitions to ext4. I prefer that over NTFS. Currently, moving files on a 5400RPM HDD, so, you know, it's frustrating.

No. On an NVMe. Just had a few files on HDD, especially the VM's VDIs. Was a struggle backing them up and then moving them.

Yup, VDIs are big and take lots of time to move, esp if you store them in single file like me.

I just tarred the important files within each of these VDIs. They themselves were pretty large.

What do you run on those VMs?

Every one of my Linux projects including builds of kernels and some distros was done on those VMs.

Depends. If you are a tinkerer or a security engineer, a semi-closed system like PS is always interesting.

See. Most people just think of these as simple little boxes, but, that's not always the case. It's not a well known fact that, gaming consoles are often packed with good, if not the best hardware. But, proprietary tech and lack of open source drivers makes them good enough, just for gaming. It's also a lesser known fact that Sony usually sells the consoles itself at a loss. Their profits comes from games and accessories.

The newer hardware got vendor locked and project got rizzed big time, the condor project was a fun to read back in the days but if i remember correctly they were utlising PS3 not PS3s as stated by the above link, i know about sony doing that and also xbox one was the game changer in console markets. At that time that was thought provoking but nowadays i see more price friendly computing power cheaper than consoles(apple silicon), with apple unified memory powering their CPU + GPU i would say it's much more better than a ps or xbox, and now when we are seeing EPYC and ampere delivering some high core count CPUs the difference will keep increasing. The condor cluster project was good initiative but i wouldn't trust Sony PS for my serious work at all.

No, these were stacked PS3s not a single one, back when Sony stuck to their OtherOS support promise. You are right, if I need a PC, a PlayStation won't be the one I get for it. I am just saying though that it won't be fair to just disregard them, cause if in the future these companies do unlock them or maybe make a bit of the source available, it'd be, if not a PC alternative, a decent PC/gamig console.

I know they were stacked but if my memorial serves me right they started replacing ps3s to ps3 because of vendor lock issues, and as I said earlier consoles are designed and manufactured to be gaming consoles they can't replace PCs and vice versa. I have my fair share of playing on ps one, ps2 and PS3 but for me it wasn't a PC alternative but a dedicated gaming device which works for my gaming needs. But since then I have completely shifted to PCs for game and work, never looked back.

Portainer is good especially good with my remote needs, cause I am running docker on my Linux pc and there are times I just want to log into container for some thing or just want to change something here and there.

Man, I enjoyed it a lot. Solving the clues, and getting the product in seconds. That adrenaline rush.... They stopped the hunt after 2 years.
