Just to start a bit of a discussion. I'm behind CGNAT and want to access my local network from outside. Is it possible to setup a tailscale in a way where I don't have to log in with google/ms/apple acc, as I don't have one.
Would this be possible with headscale for example, or I would need a VPS?

If you don't have access to a VPS, you can try using free services like Fly.io or Heroku, which offer free tiers that might be sufficient for a small setup. However, these services might have limitations in terms of performance and uptime.

The only thing to note here is that if the traffic exceeds the limit, it may switch from free to paid (paying for the traffic fee) LOL.

Fly.io still maintain free allowance? I though they are going full PAYG now.

You can roll your own IDM (e.g. kanidm) and use tailscale custom oidc https://tailscale.com/kb/1240/sso-custom-oidc

Just checking to see what's the best and/or the most convenient option to do achieve it, if needed I can try getting one of those sweet $7/y VPS. I idled a couple of them until recently.

Fly.io still maintain free allowance? I though they are going full PAYG now.

Fly.io currently requires credit card verification. Their free plan offers 1GB of persistent storage, 512MB of swap, and has restrictions on outbound traffic. In certain regions, such as the Asia-Pacific region, outbound traffic is limited to 30GB, among other features. You can visit their official website for more details. That's about all I know for now.

50% discount on Ryzen Dedicated Server for the first three months (Only $34.50/mo) :

    AMD Ryzen 7600
    Cores: 6 (Threads: 12)
    RAM: 64 GB DDR5
    Disks: 1 x 960 GB NVMe
    Traffic: Unmetered @ 1Gbit
    Location: Ogden, Utah
    1 IPv4
$103.50 for the first three months ($34.50/mo) with the coupon code: 50%Ryzen
Recurring price after the first three months: $207/quarter ($69/mo)

    Two questions

    • what is the fair usage limit for the monthly data bandwidth
    • is there an option for 10g with fixed monthly data bandwidth

It is dedicated 1 Gbps port, unmetered. There is no fair usage.

We don't offer metered 10 Gbps, only unmetered for $520/mo.

Yea, you'd need to host it. And it doesn't use much resources so a low spec vps will definitely work, as long as network connection is good. Mind that you'll need to use proper TLS certs (I use ones from certbot=letsencrypt).

As for the login options - passkey is not necessarily a hardware key, I use KeePassXC to store passkeys for my browser.

Thanks, guess I will have to dig in further. I thought it was possible to only host headscale on my network and somehow be able to connect to tailscale servers, without adding anything else.
