I am doing a cleanup / YABS of all my VPS after I idled them for 1 year, and HostSlick topped the worst so far because how can it be all 3 VPS that I bought last year are all broken :joy:

wait what...? I just bought one from them minutes ago :joy:

Congrats on getting into it! :D

  • This is the discussion I’m here for 👀

I’ve just gotten into self hosting and such and acquired a few VPSs this BF for testing for the first time in more than a decade. I’m mostly happy with what I got to test with exception of MassiveGrid.

Pretty sure @yoursunny have a long list of them

Yup i have 3 even if they give me money i wont approche anymore

    1 - Virmach
    2- Webhorizon/natvps.net

Total idle ram between my servers, not just one server. Can never resist a good high-ram deal.

I actually forgot to count a bunch of 32GB - 128GB ram servers, so it's really around 1TB total.

Under $1000, but that's not counting all the server deals that I pay every 1-3 years.

Just did a quick check on 3 HostSlick VPS that I bought during BF last year

    • 1 of them got cancelled without any replacement earlier than the due date (albeit promised to keep until due date)
    • 1 of them have conflict IP address (Multiple VPS share the same IP, everytime I run ssh it could route to different VPS)
    • 1 of them have the wrong specs (Bandwidth and speed)

I guess HostSlick is really not a provider to be taken seriously of.

(Cross-posted on HostSlick thread as well)

U know wts weird, the other day I was looking at descriptions of some of the vps I have gotten over the years, wt looked odd was that @HostSlick vps usually doesn't provide details in the order page for the package u r ordering. It's usually only few words like blackfriday vps some number and that's it. No description regarding how much cores, ram, drive, bandwidth, etc. I realize u read these things in comments over here but when e.g. U order something today from a comment in this thread and forget to take notes on exactly which specs r u ordering u open urself to be silently downgraded to any specs later in the year bcoz no where in PayPal or order emails are there details about exact specs u ordered at the then time. Additionally, it's almost impossible to find exactly which deal u got from thousands of comments and hundreds of pages of this thread. I kinda felt odd bcoz this leaves room for manipulation from the host, I am not saying Hostslick wud do that but I think hosts must be mandatorily made to include details of the entire plan in order description of the invoice, email, PayPal, etc. It's a one liner so no biggie either way.

  • Any deals from 1st page still available until now?

    Thanked by 1r3k
  • To be fair to @HostSlick , my new vps looks really good, stable & fast so far ( 3 hours of testing). I would give it a year to prove itself, will be back next year around BF2025 to comment about it😆

I am starting to observe my set of own issues with HostSlick. I got their Early-BF deal which has the same specs of Crunchbits, think that it would be easier to migrate, but there's been issues since day 1. Their Control panel does not load (always giving 523 error from cloudflare). Then there were network issues which were causing packet loss and high jitter. And then cherry on top there was complete downtime of 9 hours. Apparantly their newly purchase Router Chassis - line cards went offline

They are even giving runaround for processing the free upgrades, Its been 2+ weeks and the upgrades have not yet been processed. And when people were asking about it, they just closed the thread and asked to open a ticket for upgrades, giving some BS reason regarding qemu process stuck.

And now they are running new offers.

Me too -- my sense is he is in over his head a bit with technical problems that are not easily solved, and exacerbated by high deal volume. It would be nice if the sales slowed down while they get existing paid customers sorted out first.

It's only 12 Euros but it's the principle -- I have a simple problem with how they initially under-provisioned my SSD space by 80% and the solution made it even more complex and unusable. YABS told me I had insufficient disk space to run it!

He's pleasant, but "sorry" seems to be an unknown English word these days.

  • To be fair, I just read a dedicated thread and he said sorry twice about a particular problem with Virtualizor, so I'll count that as "sorry" for it all.

    Thanked by 1r3k
  • I must be cursed. Every time I just start really using my Hostcram server that I got at the beginning of the year, something goes horribly wrong.

First node was plagued by failing hardware right after I started using it, after many months of idling. Replacement node was lost due to Ransomware attack the day after I finished setting up my services. Now after setting things up on the 3rd replacement and using it over the last few days, I've just been notified that the node has a NVMe failure.
