You'd just change your MX records. The smartermail anti spam isn't great so I'd recommend against it.

Sure, I'll take a peak :) There was double DKIM keys getting added to some accounts so I wonder if that bit you. Still, will look.

We're not doubling the price or something. Probably add 10% - 15% to the price.

Lets talk about 'mass migrations' for Cranemail.

We're wanting to expand the migration center to support Cranemail. The main issue though is there's no way to retrieve an emails password from cPanel/DirectAdmin since they're hashed. We're not going to sit here running 'john' for you. Here's my ideas so far:

    • You provide us all the login/passwords. We then create local accounts with the same login/password and start migrations. This works for all transfers, regardless of control panel. We think this should be available no matter what.

    • For people coming off cPanel/DA, we would:
-- Create new local accounts with random passwords (or allow you to supply one)
-- Login to the remote DA/cPanel and change the passwords to a random one (or you supply us an accurate one)
      -- We do the transfers
-- We provide you the final user/password list

There's no other way to get the passwords that I can think of. I know it's a pain in the butt to have to give everyone a new password (especially in large orgs).

    Ideas?

    Francisco

  • You guys keep asking for Europe. I find it weird @Francisco is selling lifetimes in the first place! The respectful guy who gained our trust through uptime, professionalism and dedication while also barely budging when it came to price, now selling lifetimes. We all know lifetimes are a delicate subject on LET because many businesses have fallen when they adopted such mechanic; yet here we are - at page 26 of this offer thread - with a reputable brand selling lifetimes over the past week.

Now keep asking for those lifetimes in EU and tell me you don't find yourself asking for something... strange.

I don't know. It is just a feedback. It is crazy seeing such lifetimes, but it's also worrying. Maybe I am the crazy one for not believing in lifetimes anymore after being fried so many times in the past, I don't know. Maybe it is just me.

I'm not currently a CraneMail customer but the way I see it, for general cPanel/DA migrations users often do provide their credentials so the provider can generate backups and migrate to the new server.

In the same vein, it makes sense to go the route you have outlined i.e. log in, set passwords, do the migrations. Most users don't change their passwords anyway 🤷‍♂️.

Personally, I'd go for random passwords but most users would probably want same credentials due to laziness/comfort.

I've been a loyal customer of Francisco's for more than a decade. My journey started with a one-click service for a private game emulator, then Teamspeak and website hosting for a gaming guild like 8 years back. Now, I'm back with him, confidently buying his 60/m crate for a site I no longer have time to self-manage, and his lifetime email service for my team. I have no doubt Francisco will continue to deliver for many more decades.

Doing the resets is annoying but these days most people are used to having to rotate passwords every 6 months.

    Let’s see what others think.

Not having the file extension when downloaded is a feature? Should be an option.
Also just feels like security by obscurity....

If we’re just talking mail, calendar and contacts, I’d think IMAP/CALDAV/CARDDAV type imports probably the safer bet, unless you think a lot of people will be migrating from a cPanel/DA based solution. I would sort of expect that many people are migrating from gmail/o365/yahoo/fastmail and the like.

Would be good to support oauth import too for those mail providers that support it. Google for example has dropped support for password based connections via IMAP, so you’d need OAUTH there (and maybe some provider specific stuff?).

FWIW I migrated from Google Workspace to Fastmail earlier this year and used the Fastmail migration tools, as per their doco. Make sure your migration can support repeated runs. I was moving about 13-14GB of mail and the process did drop a few times and need re-executing. Fastmails migration wouldn’t attempt to retrieve everything again (as far as I could tell)....looks like they were comparing hashes of something to avoid repeating already migrated mail.

  • @manuv said: Like someone else pointed out, I am NOT gonna use the webmail as long as compose triggers a popup. It need to be fixed asap.

Is this even possible from within SmarterEmail? You can press CTRL/CMD to have it open in a new tab but no inline-composing of emails, as far as I can see.

(also looking forward to EU solution, will migrate over)

SM is actively working on oauth, but I’m not sure to what extent (just as an auth method or for imports too?) so I won’t chase that one until we see more.

We are getting plenty of interest for internal transfers (from crane shared to cranemail) so we are just dealing with bog standard imap.

“SMTP test” to be exact. We went through our logs for a few account compromises and noticed it was extremely common to see it being sent in the subject by the attackers automated testing tools.

I’ve removed it at this point and will rely on more unique signatures.

    >

I personally have/ had services with Fran/Buyvm close to a decade, so judging is not an issue for me or most people on this forum.

This is a new service with their first lifetime offer here. If you trusted them to get one, be reasonable to work with their support to resolve your issue. Burning bridges aren't going to affect anyone but your investment into the service here...

to be fair, SMTP Test, is one for the most commong compromised subjects confirmations i have seen.

working here with 1.2 million mails sent per month, and almost daily working to reduce incoming and outgoing spam, i have seen it frequently.
