I don’t regret the purchase because I’ve been working all day with trying to find the best solution

And all of this made me find this: https://docs.hetzner.com/cloud/networks/connect-dedi-vswitch/

Hetzner’s failover IPs are annoying and routed through the main IP. Hetzner’s additional IP’s aren’t flexible enough. OVH’s additional IP’s are much better.

But, I don’t mind a few ms delay on datafetching. That means that I can have a Cloud VMs in Helsinki with permanent primary IPs. It/they send requests on behalf of my EX44, and the actual compute occurs on the dedi. Dedi changing IP’s won’t matter since the whitelisted stuff will go through private network > wireguard on VM > internet.

Will continue looking into this tomorrow.

If I’m right I might just do a giveaway for almost a full month of 25 Gbit Advance-1. We’ll see.

Leaving so soon after getting that 25gbs :'(

    let's see, not fully decided

I have realized though that if you can take the latency hit, networking on bare metal is generally not as flexible as networking on cloud, so keeping compute on metal while handling niche requirements like "I have to have this IP for years" on cloud is simpler and cheaper

Slightly off-topic, but I've been genuinely interested why would you need to "have the same IP for years", ever since you mentioned it.

Why can't you just update DNS to point to the new IP and be done with it? What kind of service is that, unless top secret?

Not top top secret but let's just say external parties whitelist the IP with no automated way to change it. Planning for an IP change would be draining

How do you keep the same IP for years thou? Just by keeping the server active? Or did you rent the IP?

Previously this wasn’t the case. New project

My plan now is either to stick with OVH and rent a subnet in a vRack

But probably more likely to use a cloud provider like Hetzner and just, if I have to change something, remove the VM without removing its primary IP, they seem to charge like €.5 a month for a primary IP if I remember correctly

It’s just outgoing HTTP requests so it’s not a requirement for the permanent IP to have super low latency, a Wireguard tunnel will be just fine

  • Thank you for contacting OVHcloud.
    Sorry for your order delay.
During this high demand season, we have some missing parts that are blocking the delivery of your server.
The team is working to gather them as fast as possible.
    The current ETA is 19-01-2025.
Thank you once again for choosing our services and for taking the time to communicate with us.

Whats your url to check stock?

  • It wasn't available. The status changed from "unavailable" to "comingSoon"... I bet most people only check that "Status is NOT unavailable".

If you check against the wrong parameter, it can trigger if SYD or SG become in stock.
But it looks like it was comingSoon so have to fix mine too.

Yep I don't check SYD and SG, they have a different planCode, and I filter the servers in the catalog before checking availabilities (my script is a catalog browser that can do auto-buy, not a formula one like yours).

Nah, if you use the normal KS-A plancode in europe and you use the wrong parameter.
It also runs against SYD and SG.

    Hence the question.

Yes, they changed the "unavailable" response in the API to "comingSoon".
