    Normally I would say yes as I would love to use it to try and make money as a side hustle, but I think I have my work cut out with the ones I have now...

    My friend a few years got a 4TB WD Purple for around Rs. 4000 at NP.

    i can still get one and cheaper at that too, they are used not heavily but i don't like them. I prefer brand new for more reliability.

    These were brand new. But, they tried to cheat him at first, bringing him drives that were almost out of warranty. He checked each serial number and only when he got a drive that had full warranty, did he get it.

    he got lucky then, 4K for a 4TB WD purple is a steal. Most of the time they are lightly used and sell crazily in the market.

    Yup. But, the only thing is they will try their level best to get rid of their old stock. My friend saw them cheat other customers. BTW, I am not talking about Cost 2 Cost, or such shops. The other ones.

    i got it, the famous one's don't deal with used stuff, the drive might have been misplaced to the used section. It sometimes happens one of my friends got 1tb in 1.5K and it was new just powered on hours 2.

    Maybe that's the case. But, he mentioned he had checked the SMART values and it said, it was unused. Not sure if the geniuses at NP found ways to manipulate that as well.

    misplaced a new one, irony :joy: on the other note, technically it's possible to wipe SMART.

    LOL! Anyways, he was happy since the SNo. did have the specified warranty intact.

    I once claimed a warranty on used and tattered WD drive :joy:

    Did you have to send the drive in by post or you took it to a service center? And, what to do if your drive had sensitive information?

    i don't care wasn't mine in the first place, had it from a friend's PC who bought it from shop and used in condition but idk why that shop listed WD drive with SN on the bill, so was easy to claim the warranty, we had to ship it by ourselves though service center was around 200KM.

    I see. From what I know, usually WD doesn't even ask for a bill, as long as the SN is still under warranty upon checking on their website.

    First had to update the warranty date using the bill, they are cool, if you get a new drive and it shows the warranty start date incorrectly you can just register your product verify it with the bill and it will be updated to reflect the bill date. Same with almost all companies some my friends got their used Netgear routers replaced with upgraded new ones.
