Are we trusting Virmach again?

  • Virmach made me horny during this black friday
    And I'll regret it
At least that's how it went last time. ;)

    Simple answer: no

Then we also need to trust c1v scammer and MassiveGrave again

    Maybe.

  • Never More!!! >:)

  • This is interesting because as a new member I missed all the drama and read only the various warnings about them. But all things considered I'll try their $5 offer and see how it goes, it won't be the worst money I wasted this BF season. Though seeing those hundreds of unsustainable deals being offered one after another I have to question how long these services can stay online.

For years. Just don't expect 99.99% uptime. It's cheap and not sure if these should be used for production (I've done it though)

There has been downtime with other services but the time has been compensated accordingly I believe.

  • Nah. Absolutely not

  • Genuine question as in the grand scheme of things I'm new here. I've no idea about previous drama or issues with Virmach... If they aren't reliable why does an administrator of the forum have a discount code for them in their signature? It implies a level of endorsement and I genuinely thought they were considered a decent provider in the BF mega thread because of said signature.

Haha, How much do they charge clients for sending a response that their order has been accepted? :)

  • I got 2 vps maybe 5 or 6 years now. Had 2 big shutdown for migration and ip changed... my shoutcast Radio workfine but 2To/month @32bit become limited... i took 3 other vps from blackfriday. I will see. For me they are not perfect but they are the best.

They were before they did the Ryzen pre-order and migration (at least that's when they lost my trust). Provider switched stuff around and some promises they made in the initial pre-order thread never got implemented (more than three years after the product delivered).

Everytime I tried to ask them when they will do something regarding the features they promised (for one, IPv6 availability), they just ignored the question or pretend to be dead for some days. I would rather have a provider directly stating the features won't be delivered and give some solution for the customers, than having this kind of situation.

  • Virmach went AWOL on LES and stopped responding to tickets for a good chunk of this year without explanation. I had a VPS offline for over 6 months with very few status updates. I logged into my account to cancel my upcoming renewals to find it restored and the expiration date extended for another year. It seems convenient Virmach reappears right before Black Friday. The owner seems to only run his business when it suits him. Buyer beware.

  • Definitely NO.If you choose Virmach, you need pay much more dollars for price-lock fee, ticket support fee,fair-use fee,and set-up fee sometimes. Then you will find your server may be suspended by "NOT GOOD STANDING" with any notice.

I do have one service with them but I will not buy anything new from them. I had one VPS down for many months and they did offer 1 year free for the VPS due the the downtime. Also I have a support ticket in 'AI assisted' state since March this year without any response from a human.

    Thanked by 1jnd
  • I still have an idle vps with them from an old bf deals which had in these years a few forced network reconfigurations and reboots, it's still good for playing with stuff but I probably wouldn't run anything production on it w/o a fallback

Because they still hold a Patron Provider / Host Rep tag on LET.

Never used them and have nothing against them, but as an outside observer, I can't imagine any price at which what they offer would be worth it.

for ~$5-6 i wouldnt mind the risk.

anything above $8, there are much more reliable providers who will restore services in a timely manner, however with (much) less CPU power.

that aside Virmachines are undisputed best value for CPU/Network for personal leisure.

put into production once and got screwed badly, but YMMV.

bur looking at the deals this year many LE* providers and deals in megathread are outdoing Virmach's sale configuration (disregarding CPU powess) so it isnt as enticing as past years at least to me anymore.

the only provider i truly trust is @NDTN

    but always backup.

    Actually , it's gambling.
I bought too many VPS from Virmach this Black Friday. Their flash sale system is fun.

Not only did I not need it .... But more importantly I've experienced their mess in the past.
So now I'm a bit hungover from buying all that stuff.
    But that’s was fun

I did my best to prevent virmach future deadpool by buying real plans and not only those 7$ boxes :D :'(

See you in a couple of months, raging because some vps have been offline for weeks or even months

Or be surprised by the new virmach. :)

  • I used to have TYO vps, let it expire last month ($12/y). don't want to deal with them anymore.

for the past years it's been good (99.7% uptime in hetrix), but seeing how they behave in OGF went silent when everything breaks down makes them not trustworthy imo.
fwiw they put a setup fee for VPS in JP, and makes multi-accounts mjj living harder. worth mentioning, at least. since it's funny.

when you have it good, sure. but once you got hit by downtime, have fun waiting with no updates whatsoever for 6-9 months.
both virmach and one moderator in OGF suddenly went away for almost a year(forgot the name), and they 'suddenly' back for BF.
yeah, not sussy at all. it's pure coheincidence! stop noticing!

Well over on LES a number of people reported the signature codes weren’t working reliably, in particular the one for current account holders from yesterday. so I guess there’s some consistency with the promo code to reports on the service reliability :)

(FWIW I don’t have any real background on the issues however. Just found the code situation a bit amusing in itself given the broader conversations I’m also seeing)

  • Are they still offering free tier service like Oracle Cloud?

After cancelling an idle $25 yearly plan with them, I never look back..

    VIVAVIRMACH

  • They are alive. Keep my VMs with them since 2017.

But not gonna lie, not gonna use it for production.

The provider that left their IPMI on the open internet and got their hypervisors ransomwared? It's hard to trust any lowend hosts nowadays (with a few exceptions), so your best bet is always having something to fail over to.

that would mean you cant trust Hostcram as well.

again trust doesnt mean no backups. there are too many points of failure in any facility and even the biggest players arent immune to that.

    always backups.
