My servers so far (inspiration for others?)

All my servers:

legend: CPU/RAM/Storage (SSD if not specified) location price -> purpose

  1. 1c/256mb/4gb – Nat Japan $4/y -> vpn/idle
  2. 2c/2g/40g – Netherlands $11/y -> idle
  3. 1c/256mb/6gb – Nat Chile $7/y -> vpn/idle
  4. 8c ryzen/20gb/300gb – Germany $132/y -> rdp for 2-3 users about 14h a day average
  5. 1c/512mb/30g – New Zealand 7.80/y -> school project, soon idle
  6. 2c/2g/60gb+6TB – Germany (owned hardware, mom collocating) €36/y -> backups, wireguard
  7. 1c/512mb/1500gb hdd – Nat Finnland $24/y -> backups
  8. Raspberry pi 4 4gb (I think) – Germany (owned hardware, mom collocating) $0/y -> vpn / idle
  9. 1c/1g/10g – Buffalo, US $5/y - > school project and some personal projects
  10. Redacted/6.5gb/redacted - Netherlands $redacted/y -> most of my projects, api and other things
  11. 1c/256mb/6gb – Nat France $2/y -> idle/testing
  12. 1c/1g/512gb hdd - Dallas, US $7/y -> backups
  • bunch of home servers (cant open ports) and bnch of free oracle servers

probably ya'll got better deals over the years, i havent been that long here...
some people got the $5/m dedi from OVH i think and some got like 8c/8gb for $10/y

if providers are watching:
looking for 1 more weird location and maybe dedicated if your finger slips and you remove the last 1-2 digits from the price lol

oh and of course if you have better deal than this, i'll happily switch to you (if you are reputable)

i guess im not that bad with idling right?
trying to deploy things once i buy a server.... or i dont buy one
or you think i should kick the idlers and when i do need something for a project use th backup server or home server with cf tunnel?
im curious of what people think

    When are we all going to admit that we have an illness? The amount of servers I have "collected" over the years are way too many to be normal. It's an addiction, maybe an obsession for the ones that are still in the under 10 VPS idling category. But once you hit 20, 30, or even more, you're an addict.

    No no no no. No one touches my servers! But I am much better now. I idle less, and I actually use the ones I have. I meant it more as a warning for newcomers. :wink:

    Oracle servers are free all long days and year? Is there anything we have to be mindful while installation software on them? If they offer generous RAM, I wish to install PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis along with RabbitMQ, Oracle, super useful for my teaching project.

    ehhh could? depends... i counted all servers except clear mail ones...

  • @DeadlyChemist Signed up with Oracle , They have taken credit card, charged about 1 USD (converted to Indian rupees). As per internet, I can create 2 Micro instance using AMD, up to 4 core, 24 GB ARM instances for exploration, which can be split up, 200 GB Volume for all these 6 put together. Seems good option. Only yet to see those VM, how they perform.

    Thanked by 1DeadlyChemist
  • my-idlers really helped me realizing how much i am wasting on vps's

    many are about to renew next month, which i gonna cancel unless needed.
