Hrm. I guess i'll open it up for non resellers.

Ping me later today, I should have that merged.

@codelock said: I assume reply from a different "from" user might be confusing if for example I was contacting amazon support from [email protected] while my account is registered with [email protected], would love if you guys could implement a feature for this

If you make aliases instead of a catch-all, then you can send FROM those aliases. For the catch-all I don't even know how that'd work. I guess every time you would specify what user to impersonate?

    Francisco

So it's possible to impersonate as a different account in the mail client : interesting:

If you make real aliases then yes, you can pick it in the webmail when you send an email :)

    1) I have 1 domain and 1 inbox/user ([email protected]). I want to use it as a catchall inbox/user. After researching online about smartmail, it appears I cannot make a user/inbox as a catchall inbox/user. Instead, I need to create a catchall alias ([email protected]) and add my user email as a forwarding address. Is this correct?

    2) If I sign up for multiple services using my domain (e.g., [email protected], [email protected]) and forward these emails to my inbox [email protected], can I compose and reply from addresses like [email protected]? Note that these are not users or aliases, but rather emails caught and forwarded by the catchall alias, though they belong to the same domain (demo.com).

I want to sign up for hundreds of online services (like Amazon, Facebook, Instagram, etc.), each using different email aliases on my domain. However, I don't want to manually add users or aliases in the settings every time.

    My goal is to:
    1. Have just one main inbox/user
    2. Be able to reply and compose emails using any alias (example: [email protected]) from this single inbox
    3. Do this without having to pre-configure each alias in the settings

Is it possible to send emails from any email address on my domain (*@demo.com) even when that specific alias hasn't been added to the settings?

@Francisco @NameCrane Does anybody know?. i mxroute but would like to switch if it works like this.

Are you wanting to us a wildcard catch all or would you add specific aliases?

AFAIK if you use a specific alias (like, amazon@domain.com) then you can allow emails to be sent via it. I don't see how that'd work for a wildcard.

    Francisco

can I login as user([email protected]) and send mail as [email protected] without adding amazon as alias or user? is it possible?

does email server block it, if I send it? some services allow it and some don't. spoofing but some services allow it because of catchall usecase so don't need to add 100's of aliases manually.

What would you think about taking this as a EU customer (family email for five people), I mean it's 'only' email, no problem if it takes somewhat longer. Right?

Works ok from EU. Webmail is snappy enough and does not feel slow at all, but sync on the phone takes about 4-5 seconds to load every time i refresh, so it feels a little bit slow for me. Overall it works good for my needs.

Thanks, I'll give it a try then.

I'm going to be honest with you, I don't know. I don't think we got that deep into the weeds testing it. If you give me a few hours I'll test it on my dev account.

I'm going to setup a demo account for people that want to poke around the webmail interface.

    Kinda :)

    https://help.smartertools.com/SmarterMail/current/Topics/User/Settings/MySettings/ConnectedServices#retrieval

Basically, you'd add your MXR user in there and it should keep the inboxes synced.

    Francisco

basically this means it can use as a email archive as we can set the retrieval in POP so i will not sync delete mails, only new mails from the retrieve account?

So now I wonder if I should buy one plan for each family member in my own NameCrane account in case I wanted to stack them if it becomes possible. Trying to think through pros and cons - any wise ideas from anyone?

Separate NameCrane accounts or all plans in one account?

Mike's been fine with stacking AFAIK. Worth a ticket.

He says yes to stacking? awesome, now you will have to stick with me for life.

Can I make an account other than postmaster@ be the primary admin? I added a second account to the domain and would like to use that as the primary login to administer the rest of the accounts that I create.

EDIT: Oh, "Domain Adminster" toggle on /interface/root#/settings/domain/domain-accounts/user/user%2540domain-name.tld

I would think it would leave them locally. I’ll ask the guys in the beta since I know some of them tested it.

A mass migration option is on the todo list.

If you did POP retrieval with the "leave message on server", then it should just download new mail and nothing would sync.

They allow for IMAP retrieval, but I haven't tested whether that will sync everything back.

Feel free to try it out and let us know, but POP retrieval should be safe and do what you want.

Yeah, you can order another and ticket to stack - just don't add any domains/etc to that other account.

Give us a few days at least though, I'm buried under a pile of tickets and that's gonna be lower priority.

  • Which parameters would get stacked, presumably meaning, "doubled"? It sounds like you're saying storage capacity will stack, but what about the maximum number of domain names, etc?

Sure. We'll likely just add a few bigger plans than some other 'stacking' setup.

Yes, some sort of inhouse anycast DNS will be available with domains. Be aware that it won't be extensive like Cloudflare. It won't be sub 1ms latency lookups due to us not being on every IX on the planet.

We'll aim to be a 'good option that isnt run by the NSA'.

Storage + Domain count would stack. Sending limit won't.

Yeah, you can buy 2 lifetimes and put in a ticket (Support dept) to stack them.

    So $69.42 x 2 would get you 500G/30 domains.

First post here in LET (had been a lurker for long, had to create account to get clarity on this deal  )

I guess, I have similar proposed usecase like @ought - ie recreating simplelogin / anonaddy to prevent primary email to be used for everything.

Forwarding by Cloudflare or similar allows multiple aliases to be forwarded to same mailbox but there are times where you need to respond to one of the senders from that alias. Manually creating each alias prior to use is a chunk of work - so was wondering if theres a way to allow the smtp server to allow sending from *@domain.com where * can be an alias ie not created as a specific user/mailbox under said domain.

Again, use case is NOT for spamming / marketing but legit usecase like responding to a support ticket or whatever pushed to one of the 'aliases' ie caught by the catchall

  • @Francisco is account activation manual process ? I ordered ~2h ago, went out and just realised I still have nothing
