Why does Cloudflare suck so bad?

I hate captcha. But I also understand the need for it, due to so many evil people which probably may not even be called humans anymore.

They're just an annoyance for the normal users. Good booters/bots bypass every single captcha regardless.

I added this to uBlock Origin (from reddit):

    /cdn-cgi/challenge-platform$important
    ||challenges.cloudflare.com^$important

It's blissful. Now instead of a heavy cloudflare captcha dragging my browser down, I just get a blank page that I can close. If it's a temporary thing, I can maybe come back some other day. Otherwise, I'm usually fine without whatever that site is. If it's important, I can open it in another browser, but that's rare.

what I actually hate from Internet today is popups - accepting or rejecting things. (GDPR, Terms, Cookies .. whatever). If I see this garbages I just close the window, I really don't care what his offering behind of popups.

    Captcha is just fine.

Or, use the cookie filters in uBlock origin for example

While I agree with you that CAPTCHA can be annoying, as a website owner I still find them useful.

You are also right that it is possible to "solve" and if implementation is vulnerable - to bypass - in an automated way, true CAPTCHA still require human to actually solve it - AFAIK latest hCaptcha cannot be solved by AI reliably. There are some services that pay 3rd world countries' citizens to solve CAPTCHAs. However, it is important to note that this security (or anti spam at least) mechanism makes attack more expensive. Sometimes it is sufficient to prevent attackers at all because cost of solving/coding bypass for a CAPTCHA would cost more than benefit from their spam or whatever activity.

Also, I don't agree that Cloudflare Turnstile is a CAPTCHA. It is more like JS challenge used to detect browsers suspected to be abused by booters/automation like Selenium.

I totally agree yeah, I honestly love everyone who sticks with Cloudflare instead of other alternatives, by far the most user-friendly one.

    Here here!

I'd happily trade Cloudflare-style captchas for the constant cookie popups.

I like the new browser Safari from Apple, you have the ability to hide those per site even on mobile, is not enough but for a mobile device is decent

  • If you guys want to visit real captcha hell, try PaleMoon (portable version available for a quick test) in private mode.

reCaptcha rage like 8-9 screens (select all parking meters) is guaranteed :) Should you miss something, level B with inverted colors appears immediately.

Of course. How do think will it feel? A warm hug or just put us in these?

If you don't think too hard it'll feel like a warm hug.

  • The latest Cloudflare thing just involves a tickbox. It's marvellous. Much better than the multiple "click all the traffic lights" checks and Wordpress anti-spam plugins that always seem to stop working.

DNS is so easy. I use the SSL/TLS encryption and cache. Also register my domains through Cloudflare. My only criticism is that live video Stream is too costly

  • If you don't want to see any more Cloudflare challenges and are deadset on using a VPN, use a less abused IP.

In the case of private VPNs, avoid Hetzner Cloud, DigitalOcean, Vultr, or any other provider with hourly billing or incredibly cheap prices.

In the case of commercial VPNs, it's impossible because even if you somehow manage to find an IP with a high human score someone else can abuse it and bring down that score quickly.

Or, you can use a residential proxy. Pretty much all of them are undetectable by Cloudflare. They are, of course, much more expensive.

I see it specifically on certain sites but majority are fine.

My WAG is that some domains have the "Under Attack" option enabled when it shouldn't be..

I can't access this site on my mobile browser when it is enabled, otherwise it is fine as an example.

  • i get less CF captchas when I'm using CF warp; I get a lot otherwise, or outright blocked as my IP is usually in Vietnam.

Right! captchas can feel like an obstacle course, ultimate test of patience, especially when the letters look like abstract art. :s
