MyW does not enough revenue to pay server bills, let alone hiring someone.

the lifetime subscription money was likely spent somewhere else

    something like this?

We're moving to Lisbon, buy and help us! LIFETIMES!!! ... but we need furniture, ink, washing machine, so much stuff. You know the drill, we need EVERYTHING. Even curtains! ... so I thought I could launch an awesome promotion ... this'll help us TREMENDOUSLY buying the stuff we need!

    or something like this?

we've clients paying us very well for increased limits, support, custom plans, companies and so on.

I questioned Miguel multiple times in the past, on other forums too. He stated the business is fine and non-lifetime paying customers are paying for the servers. Something changed later, or recently.

Let’s call this “marketing”, or missunderstaning. Or just lie.

Maybe if @Calin asked nicely, he would get money for quattro TDI as well without needing to rob it.

Because clients are here to fund owners private bills obviously.

Plain scam. How many would buy if he said 2,3 or 4 years instead of lifetime? Nobody!

It seems like the opposite. The clients were funding the hosting, and he had to kick in his own money on top to keep everything afloat.

“furniture, ink, washing machine” is NOT funding hosting. Its private bills.

  • @MikePT guess its a good thing im late, i checked both e-mails at the same time, running backups now just in case (running super slow i see) and think what i should do next...

I would just like to point out a couple of things, business fails, ideas fail, people do stupid things, shit happens, if you did a mess of your biz thats on you, but thats ok, happens...

But what i don't like is all the fantasy stuff, you have been incomunitato for way more than 2 months, licenses have expired for way longer than that, basic service has been wonky at best, and you say you lost your job on August and in 2 months you are penniless, don't you have a emergency fund? You have to have a rainy day fund for yourself but a business has to have one too, you are dealing with other people's work and lives.

Last month you spent all your last money on the servers, then that's the time to talk with your clients! To tell you need to shut down, to reassure them that their sites are online and there are backups and that they have X amount of time to figure it out, i'm not talking about refunds or anything like that, just keep your clients up to date and good, that's it, that's the time to reach out, to see how you can help, to see if you can sell or offload the biz or hell give discounts, so much you could have done... a month ago... on that you failed miserably!

Sending a sob story e-mail and give everyone of your clients a shrug, maybe your site is online, maybe it's not, so sad... good luck... what is that? And now magically you are super available on lowendtalk... doing your "poor is me" therapy... please... i never questioned your technical chops but business wise i now have serious doubts, anyone can fail, but it makes a huge difference how you fail and how you deal with it.

and @jar thanks for the headsup/catchup... even if you don't pick it up...

Yeah, with @jar as boss, @MikePT wouldn't have to go to a bar - neither for earning nor spending.

I will be taking it over. I'm still kicking the tires but I'll probably condense some things, squish it into being self sustaining, and then see what I think from there. The short story is there's no closing to announce. If it's going to spin down over a longer period of time, which seems still likely, the amount of time given will be so much that no one will feel like they need to know right now if that's the plan.

  • Thanks @jar 👍

As a lifetime owner, and I guess for others too, how much time we should plan? Should we calmly take the NameCrane offer for discount till 23rd of September, should we wait for BF offers or can we plan a year or two?

I have the backups nightly, but migration from live DA would be easier and less stressfull...

  • Seems like the shutdown was delayed, but either way a business losing money loses money as a sinking ship is a sinking ship. Either it becomes profitable or eventually it will be shut down. I'd move my stuff either way. Always hated lifetime offers for services that have recurring costs, doesnt work.

I wouldn't give you any less than a year notice, so I wouldn't worry about how long it takes me to decide what I want to do with it. But you're never in bad hands with @Francisco so you'll not see me suggest to not have an account with him. That dude has saved my ass on more than one occasion.

Thanks! Currently I don't have any production sites on MyW, mainly the personal inbox is the only concern, so I will happily wait for your notice when/if it happens. But by any means, @Francisco is number 1 in the list for migration target. ;)

There's no guarantee we'll do a deal again in the future if jar decides to pack it in.

You do you, but if you've already been stressed out freaking out about this account going down, it's probably not the best plan to be relying on a host that's running on charity.

I'll need to see what the DNS situation looks like, don't want to break anyone's SPF.

  • also @jar is @MikePT still on board?

also when can we expect the service to be 100%, like jetbackups and whatever else working...

and regarding mxroute yeah it would break mine, but a notice with some time to adjust and its not a issue to move...

He'll be working toward whatever his next thing ends up being, this won't be his burden anymore. We both agreed that's best.

I guess my thought was everything is in the state that would be considered working, so it'll take me more time to think about details like that.

  • fair enough, thanks for the support @jar, absolutely stellar! but in that case its like @Francisco said... ill probably move most of my stuff out...

@MikePT has been unburdened by what has been.

No one can say @jar isn't pro life.

Memes aside, we've done our best to help where we can. I'll get back to some tickets/dev work.

  • unsure why my thread https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/175697/lifetime-myw-bf-deal-shared-hosting#latest was closed, but anyways, props to jar, guess i barely made my money worth and jar came to rescue

i wonder if he'll honor lifetime deals tho, or if i have to transfer to mxroute

i actually have accounts and hosting at both, incase one dies (i was expecting this to come), i can transfer to the other (be other only mxroute was ever included lol).... well yeah

If you change IPs, you could tell people to add the include at the same time since they'll have to change their main records anyway.

    So he is not employee?

Now I am curious if @MikePT received a good job offer from LET. He's a good lad.

No I am not, Jarland is the new MyW owner, I'll be out of the LET market as an entrepreneur but I will be active here :-)
