Hosting is not a fridge. It is virtual service, not a product. So it is tightly coupled with person who provides that service. If owner dies - that's ok, service dies with him. In this case there is alternatives to save reputation and clients. Let's explore them and help Mike to avoid "exit scam" label.

Isn't myw sold "life time" plans? Hm... Exit scam odor?

@MikePT said: We've had lifetime plans active for 5 years, not sure how that's a scam.

Typical life time of a human is ~75 - 85 years. So, 5 years is just 5 years. Yes, this is exit scam. That's the sad part. But hey, community is ok with 20k scam. So this blunder will fade fast, don't worry. Next time, when you get a job, we will wait your next project!

lifetime always means lifetime of the product

I tried my best to keep it alive.
Last month I paid for everything, and that means this month I could not afford my rent.
    I was hoping I'd get a full-time job faster.

  • Too soon. Fck you. Better help to pull this out of the deadpool!

    Dear MyW clients,

I still remember when we launched MyW in June, 2019 - since then, it's been 5 years since we launched our first offer. I had expected MyW to grow further, by launching new products and trying to innovate. This was actually planned. The recent investments a few months ago to move to rented IPv4 subnets and owned IPv6 prefix, and to better hardware that'd allow us to launch our VPS offers that, due to the lack of time as I had a fulltime job, didn't actually happen.

Unfortunately, I have lost my job recently and even tough MyW could handle the monthly bills, before we invested to better hardware and subnets, I can no longer keep this project alive. It has been a month and a half jobless, everything is due currently. From servers, to licenses, and even at the personal level (my rent, bills, etc). The money I had last month was to pay for the servers, and I tried to get a job as soon as possible so we could continue to operate. It's no longer feasible.

It is with sadness that I announce that MyW is closing its doors. I have asked for payment extension for all our servers and subnets, but I cannot guarantee any exact time, nor prediction. Some are already well past due, and the providers we've been using have been more than great to me. I had high hopes that I could get a job ASAP so I could not only survive, but to keep MyW alive.

My sincere apologies for the lack of proper notification - I tried to go the extra mile and paid for everything until I can no longer pay for anything at all.

As so, I urge you to create backups as soon as possible and migrate elsewhere, I'd recommend migrating to Namecrane, Francisco is not only great, as his hardware and network is very decent. Their pricing is great, it works flawlessly.

We thank our clients for trusting us for over 5 years, it was a great experience, both professionally and personally.

Once again, my apologies for closing shop - it's been a hell of a ride.

Get in touch! I'm happy to see if i can help with a continuity plan.

  • @mw said: how have you never had the term "lifetime" explained to you legally?

I tend to avoid terms like "unlimited", "unmetered", "free", "no credit card required", "trial". Probably due to this I always pay and get what I expect. I shall try to be more naive, less paranoid.

Well, to avoid "exit scam" label there could be made few decisions:

    • Sell business
    • Take a loan, investment or just rob 20k to keep infra alive
    • Give away business to save customers and reputation for "life time" services

Non of that manifested. Ah, fck it, blame that on users and surrounding that "allows such offers".

It's not possible to get a loan if you have no sources of income which is the case.

Sell business to other company is good way out for both sides!

If it was profitable, but it's not really worth it.

    MRR?

    Don't share inside info. :+1:

I had a chat with my minions, this is what we came up:

We can provide you a VPS, as large as you want, free of charge, if you wish to backup any projects regarding your business.

If you think this might help, DM me and we go from there.

  • I bought a lifetime plan less than a year ago. Any chance of partial refund?

    Hey,

The only data we'd want to backup is full backups for our customers, just in case, if that's possible, then I'd appreciate it, even if you can do it for a month.

  • I feel bad for suggesting myt to a friend 2 years ago and he bought an expensive package of €80.

    Why? If you’re closing down?

Could probably be a factor in regards to if providers contact you or not

@MikePT - all this is shameful. People here invested in helping you in your project, whether it was on family occasions (such as child birth) or simply on religious holidays. This is why many ordered lifetimes, including me. Now you close doors after 5 years, even though your company was older than that and you presented it as already absorbing all expenses from active monthly customers.

The lack of success with MyW is on your shoulders. This is disappointing as it involves something called "trust". I hoped to see a success in my investments with a company becoming great and maybe sell one day when manager gets successfully bored or drunk. Instead I see an exit of a manager who can't pay the bills and did not manage to invest the money from lifetimes. Sad. Just sad.

And to think you're a Moderator here... I honestly saw you as a model around here.

Anyway, I wish you success in your future. Hopefully you'll find a job and get back on your feet to help your family with dignity and integrity.
