KVM Windows Server VPS in Los Angeles + Strong DDoS Protection
VZ Type:
KVM
Number of Cores:
2 cores
RAM:
6-8GB
Disk Space:
~150GB
Disk Type:
SSD
Bandwidth:
Not specified, but should be sufficient for MMORPG hosting.
Port Speed:
1Gbps preferred
DDoS Protection:
Yes, strong DDoS protection required. Preferred solutions are Path.net or CosmicGuard.
Number of IPs:
1
Location:
Los Angeles, USA. The server needs to maintain low latency, ideally 100-150ms between the Americas and Europe, and no more than 200ms to Asia, particularly Malaysia and Thailand.
Budget:
$40/month
Billing period:
Monthly
Additional Information:
- VibeGames doesn't offer Los Angeles as a location.
- RoyaleHosting doesn't offer Los Angeles as a location.
- I’ve previously used BuyVM with Path.net protection, but they don’t have a Los Angeles location.
- Tempest.net is too costly without a KVM option.
- bloom.host would be ideal, but they’re out of stock.
- Sharktech doesn’t meet my needs, as I prefer to configure my firewall rules like I could with BuyVM.
If anyone can provide a VPS that meets these requirements or has suggestions on a reliable provider, I would appreciate it.
Thank you!

LV isn't that far away from LA and you should still be able to get sub 200ms from SEA.
@DP Thank you for the input! I agree that Las Vegas isn't far from Los Angeles, and it could potentially meet the latency requirements.
However, I believe that Los Angeles might offer better overall connectivity, especially for my target regions.
That said, I'm open to exploring solutions in LV if they can maintain a ping between 180-200ms to those areas. I appreciate your suggestion and would welcome any further recommendations you might have!
There's not going to be much of a difference in ping from SEA (particularly SG and MY) to LA, compared to LV

But if you are keen on looking for something within LA, reach out to @MikeA, or check out ExtraVM.
Thank you, @DP , for the detailed analysis and ping tests. It’s clear from the results that the difference in latency between Las Vegas and Los Angeles is minimal, which is reassuring.
I appreciate your help and will wait to hear from @MikeA for any potential solutions in Los Angeles.
Thanks again!
Based on the companies you list, I probably wouldn't be able to help compared to the companies that boast about having specialized or custom mitigation. My VPS are general purpose protection won't be suitable if you're attracting attacks that only big names like Path can prevent.
Hi @MikeA and @DP,
First, I want to thank both of you for your insights and support throughout this discussion.
@MikeA, I appreciate your response and the clarification regarding the DDoS protection capabilities of your services. I understand that your general-purpose protection might not be sufficient for the specialized needs I have, especially considering the potential for significant DDoS attacks. I’ll keep your services in mind for other needs that might fit within that scope.
@DP, thank you once again for the detailed analysis and the ping tests you provided. It's clear that the latency difference between Las Vegas and Los Angeles is minimal, which is reassuring. Given this, would it be possible for you to help edit my original post and title to include Las Vegas as a potential location? This adjustment will allow me to explore a broader range of options and see if any providers can meet my needs in Las Vegas as well.
I truly appreciate the help from both of you!
Best regards,
Check out @speedypage
They use Datapacket/CDN77 so you should have excellent connectivity to Asia.

+1 for @speedypage!
@concept, thank you for recommending @speedypage! Their offer looks promising, especially with the excellent connectivity to Asia.
@speedypage, could you please confirm if your DDoS protection is as robust as Path.net or CosmicGuard?
Additionally, would I be able to configure specific firewall rules, such as only allowing certain TCP ports, through your control panel or via ticket, similar to what I used to do with BuyVM?
I appreciate any details you can provide!
Thank you!
Although, I don't have experiences with their DDoS protection. They do state this "Protected by DataPacket's Advanced DDoS Shield, as well as an in-house, in-line XDP filter for game specific protection" on their previous offer threads.
Datapacket probably won't be suitable. They mostly just handle volumetric L4, anything DDoS related their network team takes >24h to respond and they generally don't do custom filtering unless you pay them a lot. I use them in Singapore, host a few MMO game servers, it "works ok generally" but you need your own rules setup to block stuff.
Really just need a higher budget. Something on GSL is probably ideal for the use case. @atila If Dallas would work let me know and I could help. But I don't know anyone in LA that you didn't list that wouldn't be more suitable.
+1 for @speedypage
If GSL works, then there is StreamlineServers
@concept, @MikeA, thank you both for the additional insights!
@concept, I appreciate the information regarding @speedypage and their DDoS protection setup. I'll definitely wait for their response to my question about the robustness of their DDoS protection and the possibility of configuring specific firewall rules.
@MikeA, thanks for the detailed explanation about Datapacket. It seems that they might not be the ideal solution for my needs given the response times and limitations on custom filtering. I understand that a higher budget might open up more suitable options. If Dallas could work as an alternative, I'd be open to discussing further possibilities with you.
Regarding DDoS protection, I believe that providers using GCore, Path.net, CosmicGuard, or GSL would likely meet my requirements. If anyone here on LowEndTalk knows of providers offering KVM servers with these protections in place, I would greatly appreciate your recommendations!
Thank you all for your continued support.
Best regards,
atila
Thanks for the mentions!
@atila - our Los Angeles location has both DataPacket and an XDP filter that runs behind it for anything that leaks through. We have profiles for specific games, so depending on what you're running, it will work for what you require.
Feel free to open a support ticket if you need further specifics!
Hi @speedypage,
I’ve just sent you a private message regarding a few questions I have. Whenever you have a moment, could you please take a look?
Thanks in advance!
