I am sure we all sympathize with the families of those killed and injured. Unfortunately, the world is such that people quickly forget about troubles.

I remember 1971, when there were large-scale actions in the world to support the hungry in Bangladesh, and George Harrison even wrote a song about Bangladesh.

It is a pity that in order to solve the problems of the people people have to go to a violent confrontation with the government. This happens not only in poor countries, but also in rich countries.

Probably because the elites of the countries are too far from the problems of the people.

My assumption is that the ISP still recognizes and routes traffic between their own subnets (even if they're not announced or available to the public internet). I would assume that the only way to get access would be to be on that specific ISP.

All traffic was blocked at the IIG but the ISPs were still connected at the national IX. So pretty much all ISPs except the mobile operators had interconnectivity. A lot of people spun up FTPs, Chat and other creative services to stay connected which was nice.

DC++ and eMule again is a thing? mIRC?

We wanted to. But the biggest challenge was finding someone who had these files to begin with. For example, I heard from someone that it took them a whole day to find someone who had teamspeak server files to host. They reached out to their friends and they reached out to theirs hoping to find someone with the server files. They did end up finding the files but the license for it expired in 2020. To adapt, they made sure to change the date of the server and all the clients connecting to it. It was crazy but it worked. Desperate times haha.

And the only active chat services we came across were based on socket.io

  • hi. i am from Bangladesh. as some don't know or not clear about Bangladesh and Bangladeshi/Bengali, i am trying to clear that at first.
Bangladesh is a South Asian country near India, an it is independent country since 1971.
All people from Bangladesh are Bangladeshi, even there are some people from hillside area with native different language. But people whose mother-language is bangla are called "bengali" from all over the world. There are 180 Million Bangladeshi, 28.5 Million Bengali around the world.

Now, the almost 5 day internet shutdown issue. as someone already told there was 56% quota reserved for freedom-fighters children+woman+ less developed stats+ tribes+ special child. At 2018, govt removed all quota due to student protest. at 2022, a freedom fighter appealed on high court to reform the quota system and high court again restart the quota system on June 05 2024. then govt appealed on supreme court to dismiss the order from high court.supreme court take 1 month time to announce the judgement. then student protest to govt to process the announcement within week instead of month. at the time, there was some words from govt make student furious and some slogan from student make govt furious. Then action from Police become violent and some political party become involved and destructive against police and govt. so many student, police, journalist, political worker killed. there is reported from news media that 201 killed since the violence started.
at first, govt shut down mobile internet due to propaganda is spreading via social media specially facebook which make the protest more violent. then govt data center & some fiber optics burned by protester as govt said and complete shutdown the internet over the country. after almost 5 days there is broadband become online but still mobile data is off. also social media like facebook, twitter, tiktok, whatsapp all are blocked by govt, it wont be unblocked until govt satisfied by taken action from facebook and others to prevent propaganda as IT minister said.

I am getting around 500kbps-1mbps on my 50mbps connection. so you can imagine how slow is internet speed over the country even it become online.

We had nearly zero news of this in Western Europe, at least from what I've seen. We did have news of the killings, of the fights, but no news on that Internet repression or those actions.

In fact, the few outlets seem to have even spun the issue from the state/governmental perspective (e.g. public station service RTP and private SIC, in Portugal).

I'm shocked and saddened to hear on this. We definetly should've heard much more.

Complain as you like but that's faster than what I regularly have. With a 4 years old browser I do small websites only, that counterweights.

While India is, indeed, different from Bangladesh, alongside Pakistan and Myanmar (former Burma), the two were part of the "Raj", the British colony, and share a lot of things. Bangladesh was part of Pakistan (Eastern Pakistan), but the Indians helped with their independence.

That being said, there is no such thing as ethnic Indian (or Pakistani, Burmese etc.), like there is no such thing as ethnic European, American or Asian. India is a mix of many nations, with 780 languages or so, of which 23 are official, more or less.

The division between India and Pakistan (which included Bangladesh at the time) was on religious, not ethnic bases, the Hindus and the Muslims have separated somewhat.

Internet is still restricted/slow/not available. In my city most of the broadband company do not have internet access, as of last night.
I was communicating with my business partner who is in India, over sms and sms would deliver after 2-4hours later after sending. Crazy days!

  • The United States is really bad, arbitrarily destroying the political environment of other countries and greatly affecting the online environment of ordinary people.

Try to get BTCL Gpon, the speed is better than most of ISP now, as far I know, However there are other gotchas with BTCL, like no BDIX speed or access

The country seems to be screwed with a regime change operation and ethnically motivated riots under guise of student protests. Their Prime Minister has resigned and fled the country with her family, it seems.

Yes, military took over and will form temp gov unit. Absolute chaos. A very dangerous time for Bangladesh as marauders and unimaginable corruption will spread.

Democrats can never manage a country in a chaotic situation. Instead, they add additional chaos to the soup. A dictatorship or junta needs to get the country back to normal status and then delegate management to political parties. But this may not work either.

At this point, it looks like another "color revolution" with no results for ordinary people.

Unfortunately, when the number of unhappy people reaches a certain level, it will be very difficult to save the country from destruction.
