Hopefully not too many are affected by the cut, internet penetration in Bangladesh luckily is only 25%.

The situation there doesn't sound good:

Bangladesh police given ‘shoot-on-sight’ orders amid national curfew
Citizens confined to homes with no internet access as student-led protests lead to deadly clashes with authorities

Ooo! So this is the famous “Bangalore”. I always was fascinated by this name. It is nicely pronounced, like “Saigon”.

    No.

    Bangalore is different from Bangladesh.

Bangalore is a city in India, whereas Bangladesh is a different country neighbouring India

You can block satellite communications with sufficient technology.

Going through different news channels, the reason for the protest is quite valid. I so wish people here in India would take cognizant of the protest and start a similar protest here in India too as the shit with the reservation system has gone through the roof. Donkeys are hired and made to run a horse race.

  • They are killing each other over there

  • Almost civil war

Barely in any EU news. First time I heard about it.

Might be a time to setup wifi/BT based de-centralized chat system for such events.

Something like LAN over wifi/BT where everyone has same app and wifi/BT name somehow allows automatic connection/relaying between various phones using various pathes.

I wonder why such system does not exist yet? Would be useful if theres no internet but everyone has smartphones in close proximity. There was episode in "The Last Ship" TV series where some revolutionaries used large area bluetooth based networking to send and receive messages with existing smartphones. It was in season 2 or 3 I think.

Regulation would not allow such system to exist.
Government would tell Apple and Google to block/delist/uncertify such apps.
People found to be developing such apps will be invited to the police station for tea, during which they are told to cease and desist.
Repeat offenders are to be arrested and beheaded.

    Hello,

I'm from Bangladesh & let me give you with some insights on the issue OP posted.

The civil unrest first started for Quota Reform. In the govt. Jobs, there was 56% quota reserved for different categories & generalized students only got 44% which means over 100 vacancies in a Govt. Job, 56 would be allocated to different classified people & 44 would be allocated from non-classified general people.

The govt. wanted to stop the protest anyhow and so they deployed their own goons along with Police. There were gunshot, cocktail, tearshell and what not. Even, Armoured personnel carriers (APCs) were deployed as a last method.

100+ have already died. The govt. downgraded the Mobile Network to 2G first. The broadband connectivity was still there. As Bangladesh was connected via 2 Submarine Cables & 6 ITC Cables, all the International Internet Gateway (IIG) provider was sent notice to stop transmitting any data (whatever it be, even for banks). This lead to disaster. We are out of connectivity for more than 48 hours. Bank cards aren't working. Money transfer from abroad is stuck. All utilities (e.g. Prepaid Electricity, Prepaid Gas) are about to finish.

Right now, curfew is running. Nobody knows what's happening. Pray for us.

Because they can't blame Russia for that.
Once they come up with something, streets will be full of Bangladeshi flags.

Such apps exist for a while.
I don't recall the name, but one has orange logo (the only thing I remember).

There's also an app, which creates a "radio" (voice chat) on this principle.

And there was an app, which was used by protesting truckers somewhere (maybe in Canada?).
