iFog is one of the first that chanced prices https://ifog.ch/en/ip/lir-services 77 CHF/y.

Huh, I wonder if it will affect me as an "existing customer". I was ordering an AS from them last year and was quite happy about the one-time-fee only.

As the new "as-fee" is a recurring yearly item, every LIR will have to start charging for it. Technically the "Independent Assignment Request and Maintenance Agreement " everyone signs/accepts when getting resource-sponsoring has a clause that the LIR can announce pricing updates via their website.

    From the ripe sample document:

"2.3 The LIR reserves the right to amend and/or supplement the terms of this
Agreement. The LIR shall notify the End User and the RIPE NCC of changes in
the terms of the Agreement at least one month prior to any such amendment or
    supplement coming into effect"

While i cannot speak for other businesses/LIR's, i felt the need to get out an update for my clients as soon as possible.

Therefore i have already updated the pricing for MyRootPW (see website) and informed my clients.
Using this as an opportunity to standardize my pricing a bit, all "sponsoring" services now have the same rate. So for me at least it now looks as follows:

    SPONSORING FEES:

    • PI Resource Sponsoring - 100 Euro / Year (Before: 80 Euro)
    • Legacy Resource Sponsoring - 100 Euro / Year (Before: 120 Euro)

    BUNDLE FEE:

    • ASN+IPv6 PA Bundle - 110 Euro / Year (Before: 90 Euro)

The Bundle now includes up to a /44 IPv6 PA Address Space (up from a
    /48 before).

    NEW AS-SPONSORING FEE:

    • AS-Number Sponsoring - 100 Euro / Year

Hope you find this helpful in some way

Some less nice LIRs will only change it last minute to trap customers :(

I’ve heard that some LIRs are still calculating what they can do for their existing customers along side finding out what is a fair deadline to give for end users to decide if they renew, return or even transfer their sponsored asn.

Regardless. Am really curious to see the state of sponsored ASNs by start of 2025 along with hearing from RIPE if this increase (or reduced) their workload (aka expenses)

It will only get interesting towards the end of the year. Sponsored resources (for billing) are typically counted around 31 December/1st of Jan.

So i predict a lot of things going on around november/early december.

Regarding the workload for ripe employees. Cancelling/de-registering resources also takes a bit of work. So i dont foresee any workload reduction this year. If anything a slight increase in q4.

Yeah ofcourse, I was talking about one or two LIRs in particular, most are indeed still calculating, really wonder what the norm will be, atm its 77 CHF and 100 EUR from 2 LIRs who have updated it already.

Cloudie ASN is priced at $75/year. And I didn't receive the reminder until a month later. It said "First sent to clients on the 15th of June 2024" but I didn't receive it.

If they have a v4/v6 range announced under their ASN, regardless of being single-homed, they're are doing their own BGP.

Doesnt have to be the case that they do their own bgp. It can be Their Provider doing it for them. Without them having own Router. And then they dont have access either to Control anything. Neither your mentioned bgp Communities or prepending. So as said, Outcome = Same.

I know we have plenty of customers who just have BGP via one of our ASN's going to either a cheap cheap Ubiquiti "router" or just doing it via a old EX4200 or a server.
Only good thing is weeding out the people hording a crap load of ASN's.

I love seeing more and more companies offering internet and other services.

Why would people do this? What is the goal?

There are +/- 4 billion possible ASNs. How many have have been hoarded? For what purpose?

For some reason we keep running out of numbers and charge more for them, whether it is IPv4, IPv6, or ASN.

I thought numbers could be counted to infinity, especially as technology keeps evolving. Licenses and numbers should be getting cheaper as technology evolves, but these become more expensive instead. It is some really weird legal system we live in, or likely it's merely putrid due to greed.
