If node is half empty or not utilized heavily openvz is actually a decent choice. Virtualization overhead is less and resource constraints are not so tight as per kvm or xenpv.

LXC is a bit less isolated and a bit less emulated, but is mature and does pretty much the same thing.
These days overhead is just too low to matter.
Well, lxc is not something offered by reputable providers. More like dungeon ones. Meanwhile openvz is very old and still used by some dinosaurs with good quality.
