@Clouvider, out of curiosity, there's an idea on the back of my head to migrate one of my VPSes to you. But among few other functions this is my personal MX server.
I've seen this in your T&C:

6.6 No emails – emails port will be blocked by default with this service unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Is it possible to get email port unlocked for such reason (and how easy it is to get that approval), or, in general, you don't allow smtp, period?

I executed some tests with edge cases to see how @Clouvider VPS behaves with extreme load.

The VPS has 2GB memory and I didn't allocate any swap memory and extracted maximum memory with sql server db engine running. MS recommends at least 4GB memory for SQL Server DB engine, but I executed all test cases with 2GB memory and no swap.

VPS continued to work excellently even when it was pretty much out of memory.
    Refer to the screenshot below.

I have no interest in scheduling backups with the same service provider. Instead, I prefer using the rclone utility to back up to Cloudflare R2 with cronjob scheduling. This method works flawlessly for my needs.

Snapshots are on-demand backups that save you from the hassle of rebuilding the server and help mitigate the risk of server downtime.

For example, if you want to upgrade Ubuntu/Linux to the next LTS version, you simply press the TAKE SNAPSHOT button and perform the upgrade. In case of a disaster, you can restore the snapshot, and your services will be live instantly.

I hope @Clouvider will update on this.

    • Almost all providers host backups on different nodes, if any, in different data centers.

    • Snapshots, optional or not, are not backups in any way.

    • Not all providers allow export of snapshots. For example, netcup is paid after 1.

    • So-called snapshots are only useful before the update.

I understand your point. To be honest, I prefer to keep control of my website backups myself. I don't want to risk vendor lock-in or wake up one morning to find my service provider out of business. Having backups stored with a dedicated third-party provider like Cloudflare R2 or Amazon S3 is a smart move.

I did, asking to allow me to deploy mx server for one personal domain...
Unfortunately your team refused. So, it seems that for such cases having smtp ports unblocked is not possible at Clouvider. Too bad, wanted to spend some money on a server that really does receive/send way below 100 emails a day...

It is very much possible, and we allow it on case-by-case basis. Sorry we couldn't help you on this occasion.

  • yoyekyoyek Member

Well, will spend my money elsewhere on something that basically would be an idler from your perspective.
