ordering a new KS server with Kimsufi account

Adam1Adam1 Member

So, I have a couple KS servers for many years, and today i want to order a new one.

Simple I thought.... but when I go to order a new server i'm redirected to ovhcloud, which does not recognise my xxxxxx-ra account id. (tried various countries/locals).

Does anyone know how I can order a server using my KS login/account? maybe some url manipulation?

support is asking me for a xxxxx-ovh account id, which i do not have, yet emails/invoiced etc consistently refer to ovhcloud for a long time.

It's now with OVHCloud. You buy new Kimsufi servers under that account. Legacy accounts still use the Kimsufi account system to maintain existing servers / billing etc.

Sucks that you have reverify your account on ovh if your kimsufi account has been verified in the past

yeah, seems like this is the case, that sucks. I know i'll have to re-verify as I'm now in Vietnam and my billing is in the West. fun and games.

Which brings me on to question #2:

Does anyone know how i can create an OVHCloud account that bills in Euro, while my billing address is UK? Their UK pricing is always +5-10% higher in GBP, seems like a kick in the face haha.

Aside from having a friend in a country with Euro billing, like France, Germany or Ireland among many others, there is no way to avoid it.

Thanks. Went ahead with new ovhcloud account in GBP. Got double the disk space on my KS-17 (which is replacing a ... KS-17). So that's nice. No use for the additional space though :D

  • Bigger SSDs are probably faster as well; whether that matters for SATA SSD is debatable.

one other bonus, the ipv6 on the box is 1gbps, the old is 100mbps. as I use this with cloudflare over ipv6, it should help response time a tiny bit. great!

Well, they work reasonable i'd say. It's just mostly very dated/weak hardware, in general the uplink is just 100mbit (there are some lucky exceptions but one shouldn't count on it) and a lot (all?) come with just a single disk while big upside is being bare metal and price. If that sounds like a good deal KS will probably do quite well and if it doesn't there's no point in renting them in the first place.

If you can catch a good limited edition deal it can be unique for their price. KS-LE-1 of mine from 2022 BF has 2x960 GB SSD, 32 GB RAM and e3-1245 v2 with 1 Gbps up on IPv6. Hardware from 2012 or 2013, however resources are dedicated. The only one shared components is network but in real I always got Gbps on IPv6 and 1000/100 on v4, when I can not reach the maximum, issue or limitation is always on the transit peering or at my local ISP.
I switched from a netcup Root Server VDS. In my experience the old dedicated hardware can be near equal to the newer shared. Netcup provided a shared SSD with higher IO than Kimsufi, however, speed was unstable. I can reach much lower but stable speeds here which produces faster file operations.
With normal editions I do not have enough experience but I think that semi-dedicated deals might be better from Avoro or netcup. I registered only to try the KS-LE-1 for a month, I did not have the plan to use it after 1,5 years of order. So it is very convincing.
