The cheapest Google plan only has 30GB storage combined. They just increased the price for me from $7.80/mo to $9.36/mo CAD at the end of this month. A price increase each year. As a single user, I'm sticking with them for now, but they better fucking increase it the next time or its time to go. It's sometimes more limiting having a workspace account than a personal account and it's super cheap to just use MXRoute with forwarding to gmail if they're not throwing in storage.
It's regular to run into little issues when most people deal with excel and then upload to docs and use in a shared environment. Nothing big, but a few times over the years being on conference calls with screen sharing and an experienced excel/spreadsheet ninja would run into something small and we'd laugh and make a joke that it's probably patented...
(docs has always curb stomped libre/open office in compatibility with office)
I think, maybe it's just Thunderbird, but I think there's compatibility issues with yellow highlighting, but I could be mistaken.
I have the free google workspace which allows 300 users... I recommend Microsoft if I ever was forced to pay.
The google AI told me all free workspace users have their data stored on old hardware. It take google workspace free inbox about 3 minutes to load while a free gmail takes a second. Even if they are both empty.
Also, they are slowly making most features unavailable to me.
This really isn't an issue for you, since you want to pay.
However, it's kinda poop for me, I might actually convert...

Anything in the paid version of workspace I used to have, but don't have access too in the free version.
Google voice is a big one that I lost access, I used to frequent that often.
My support is limited to forums only, which I am lucky if they pay attention to those. Sometimes it is just users helping other users. Instead of a 24/7 support like normal ways to contact them.
Storage was another big thing which they dropped me to 15GB per account, but now I check I am at 90GB shared all accounts. So I can have 300 users, but they can only use 90GB in total, including mail storage. How does that make sense?

This is interesting. I have the free legacy version since signing up for it when it first became available 15+ years ago. While it still remains free, mine never converted to any other version, such as the Business Starter that you have for free.
I never had GV (integrated into the free legacy workspace) or more than 15 GB/user storage or pooled storage (which you apparently still have for free.)

These are close on the surface but when you really start digging into the M365 benefits it just outweighs google. Single Sign On, mdm, file access / file logs. With how M365 integrates with Windows and secures data it's where it wins IMO

As a big corporation mdm and sso wins, so there I would choose 365.
We changed from m365 to google a few years ago and is a huge differenece. Fist of all, Outlook has 50GB email storage, google has a lot more. We had to delete old emails every week in order to receive new ones. If you can live without exel and word go for Google, or buy them separatly. We changed from exel to sheets and is a way way better.
We went from Google to Microsoft 365 as they are better for larger businesses. The Google suite of software is just worse than what Microsoft offers. Microsoft also has a much better track record of supporting and keeping their software alive than Google.

Yeah, I suspected that too.
Basically - Google screwed up a few years ago, which is why there is a little bit of fragmentation in the legacy free workspace/gsuite/google apps accounts.
In a nutshell, summarising a few months of peak google madness...
The people who moved to the free Google Workspace Business Starter accounts have the full features available to them - apart from pooled storage. Google claim its being launched but apparently thats just a message in the account settings and it won't be for free useres. You get 30GB per account and you can create up to 300 accounts, so you theoretically could have 9TB of storage, but it would be over 300 accounts. I've set up 10, so have 300GB showing available across my family - it shows as pooled but isn't.
Other than that limitation, other restrictions that were only on the legacy accounts were removed - such as the ability to add more than one secondary domain. If the limitation still exists on the normal (non-free) workspace accounts they obviously still remain on the new free workspace accounts - such as the ability to leave reviews on Google play.
Edited to add - the free workspace accounts are hosted on the same hardware as the paid ones, the old legacy gsuite accounts are apparently still hosted on legacy hardware.
Edited again to add - Google Voice is a paid upgrade, even for normal paid for google workspace starter accounts as well as most if not all other tiers.
