How old school are you? Did you sit in IRC usinh BirltchX? :D

    Lol! Actually YES!
I still remember the day I first tried BitchX and realised it's so much more colourful and easier to use than ircII B)

Good old times... Even then there were a lot of bots... :)

On doze machines I settled for mIRC after originally using pircH... and later got 16-bit mIRC to run quite fine under WINE in RedHat... back in the late 90's

Back in the late 90s I had a home server responsible for the internet with i386 and IIRC 4MB RAM :) The thing was that back then our ISP gave unmetered internet from 5pm to 7am and during work day everything costed a fortune, so I had it scheduled to only start internet connection at 5:05pm and drop it at 6:55am ;) Used slackware (don't remember version), it was lighweight and worked flawlessly :)

  • @MrEd I have no idea from which country you are...

but we (South Africa) had a similar situation... it took us fairly long before home DSL became available and affordable.

So dial-up was for long the only option back then and regular calls per minute was quite expensive.

So they introduced what was called the "R7 plan" - which was weekdays after hours and all weekend, where any single local phone call, capped at ZAR7.00, which was the beginning of making Internet viable to more people from home for the first time.

And then you'd just hope your line doesn't drop and that you manage to go from Friday 6pm until Monday 6am with 1 single R7 call! :-)

And now I have 1Gbps at home, with no problem to upgrade to 2Gbps (but I don't really need that much :D ). Don't want to remember the dial-up, ADSL times... :D Downloading something did take a week or two :D

Day before yesterday, I saw there were 300 unique users on the stats page, but, today it's 302. New people except customers looking for double bw are still joining the thread. We could still persuade dustin into conducting GAs with demand.

yeah, a new GA would be nice

Surely, there can be more GAs. dustin has already confirmed this, on the condition that there would be demand. There were multiple people on the BF thread hyping for GAs. If they would become active, I am certain there will be more GAs.

The timout for the most active players ia over, so it really depends if everyone is active or only some of us :)

I meant the frequent GAs on the thread that dustin conducts.

I think it depends on how many different members participate in discussions. In this thread for the most time it was just 3-5 members at a time, so making a GA where "first 5" means ALL OF YOU makes no sense... if there would be 20-30 active members at a time, that would make more sense

    exactly!

Noone is too late. To get into top 25 you need only 20 comments. Just participate in one or two discussions and these 20 comments are easy :)

    Dont give out ideas /s

I was in top 15 before @ehab snatched it away from me :open_mouth:

Well, you need only 42 more comments, so please, tell us what you are doing right now :)

Was trying out palworld with friends. It's not polished, but sure is fun!

I usually don't play these kinda games, but this one was definitely interesting.

Yup! And nice @ the 1gbps!
I'm also luckily at long last on fibre these days, but 1gbps is currently our top and most expensive option, and I'm still way down on the more affordable ~25mbps ...not brag worthy at all, but a vast improvement at least
