LankaPartnerHost Review (aka. How I changed my mind about "shady" hosts)
So, one day, I saw what I believed was a bad host- just another summerhost coming to LET and scamming until they were banned.
But then I had an apiffany. What if what I constantly believed about the little guy was wrong?
So I bought one, as an experiment.
It changed my whole perspective on hosts.
My review of LankaPartnerHost (http://lowendtalk.com/discussion/16842/windows-vps-for-remote-desktop-7-m-xen-openvz-dmca-free-zone-for-6-93)
So I chatted on Skype with him about the whois information being hidden (which has now been resolved) and he was all to happy to show me the validity of his company and his offer. He was very polite throughout the process.
CPU - Great, no complaints here.
Network - Has been top-notch. I've been seeing 5mb/sec and above (not mbit) on most of my torrents.
IO/Disk - Not a hitch so far, even with my high usage.
Support - Amazing. They really do have on-call support at all times of the day (late at night and midday I have tested) who are adept and willing to help.
As I said, this is an experiment. But this provider has changed my perspective on all providers that aren't "well known".
Maybe the little guy isn't so bad after all!

Well there is old saying "don't judge book by its cover".
That's good to hear
Twitter account
yesterday
today
buying gigs, eh?
@GaNi
What does Twitter have to do with this?
Good to know someone had good experience with this host.
Twitter follower reduced...
If you are looking for really matured and good host, you figure it out.
how???
From 18,326 to 17,600 ?
He's paying for bot/fake accounts to follow him and they get banned by Twitter so he looses those followers.
That's what @GaNi is trying to show.
Summing up...The host had invalid WHOIS (which he changed later), he had a test ip pointing to a porno site, he pays to have a huge Twitter follower list, and has exactly one review on this forum, and that too from a member who has exactly 7 posts on this forum and had been inactive for 7 months...
18,000 twitter followers for a web host.. So foolish.
WHOIS data shows the registrant is from Sri Lanka, its possible his hosting company is famous there.
Nope
OVH is famous worldwide and has 28,000 followers. This guy
hashad 18,000, 5% of which was fake, when sampled on a single day.I think you meant to say 5% were real?
Fake
94%
Inactive
6%
Good
0%
I agree that really is highly suspicious but your assumption that whoever hides his WHOIS data is scam or does shady business is not true, for example If I am the registrant of a webhost which is famous, I really wouldn't like to show anything in my WHOIS other than my name because doing so would be highly risky(blackmail,threats,extraction) because of the country I belong to.So hiding WHOIS would not mean I do shady business or fraud.
I know several hosts or other online business from my region who hide their WHOIS but provide excellent service.
I didnt say that, nor do I believe that.
Many People here just talking about twitter followers, whois And useless everything. Showing they dont like to see new provider here In lowend box...
@Ruchirablog
who are the famous hosting companies in srilanka ? ( local companies )
@lankapartnerhost like all my sri lankan friend's say : Mokuth ne :P
Guy with 7 posts says give shady people a chance, they're people too!
Lol
@rsk Let him answer that..
@jarland How many posts need to make a good review
A reputation is not built overnight and this seems a bit shady. Maybe this should have been posted on WHT instead of LET. A HostGator reseller that takes the plunge into the VPS market doesn't boast too much credibility. No offense, however in my experience customers rarely post reviews, and they usually do it when you either helped them out with an issue that wasn't your responsibility to help them with in the first place, you were extremely generous with them or you provided an incentive. That's because no one has time to waste on praising their hosting provider. People expect to get what they pay for, it's that simple. Only when a customer is upset will he go to the forums and write about their provider, and not in the good way I might add.
So forgive us poor souls here for being a little bit skeptical about this review.
@jarland - long time no seen brother, that's a good one :-)
No one in this business gets that many followers unless they're Linode or Rackspace, or one of the other big players... or unless you buy them. Of course fake followers will stay on there only for so long.
Answer to your question is: No one! But there are few companies who advertise on local news papers and stuff for dirt cheap yearly web hosting plans and domains. I guess they probably have some local clients. And one of the oldest provider is http://www.orbitsl.net .
I'm in this web hosting scene for the past 6+ years and I only got to hear your name when you were spamming wht threads with "Whats your budget? Do you have any preferred location in mind? blah blah"
You are right machan No local companies are famous. Almost everyone that I know of tends to use hostgator
@Ruchirablog
Its the way of most srilankans, thinking and try to showing local companies are not good and foreign is best always, thats why srilanka is still developing country, cant change peoples mind like you,.lol
anyway regarding WHT you say spamming, but I never received warning any of mod from them its spam asking budget and location.Im sure you not looking at famous threads we starting because of jealous and thinking "mama pora "

Also change your avatar pls, people may think africans living in srilanka, lol
Why does your home page have "featured in PCWorld" and "BBB accredited business" logos on it when there is no reference to your business in PCWorld and no record of you being a BBB accredited business.
http://lankapartnerhost.com/templates/eco-net-v3-4/images/partner.jpg
You might want to have a look at the BBB's page on trademark usage: http://www.bbb.org/us/trademarks/
It's ironic that your TOS prohibits your customers from violating the intellectual property and trademarks of others and yet you are violating the BBB's trademark by falsely claiming you are BBB accredited and displaying their logo on your home page.
Your TOS also says the agreement will be "governed by the laws of the State of Virginia." You were obviously too lazy to even bother rewriting the stock TOS that came with the template you bought since your TOS is almost word for word exactly the same as the template demo (including the "state of Virginia" part)

Wait...featured in PC world. I only remember one other host that boasted this. Crap, what was their name? Iwebhostu?
I think you should not bring about delicate issue that might be interpreted as racism.
@lankapartnerhost this is true though. Sri Lanka is still developing. If I run a serious business, do you think I will host it in Sri Lanka? Although I love the place, and go there many times, I will not. Of course I will trust foreign web hosts. It is not about changing people's minds, but it is about - if and only if a company as "half big or even quarter big" as blue host or hostgator, etc. only then would I be able to trust them, still not entirely as it takes years to build trust. Weird threads, followers, etc, are signs that we avoid.
Anyhow, sabha gaman.
