Unclear: They offer IPMI/KVM access at additional cost, so how are customers supposed to setup/config their server? Unless they have a satisfying answer to that I'd see that as a show stopper.

Setup? I think thats easy. On Hetzner I boot into rescue system, download ISO via wget, mount it in QEMU together with raw drives and install it like that. Its faster than installing remotely mounted ISO via their IPMI.

The big problem is debugging - if I install system as UEFI/GPT then it will take over as first in boot order (at least on ASUS boards that I have in EX44, AX41 and AX102) so rescue system won't work anymore, as it will always boot locally. You cannot even reinstall OS or destroy your data, because PXE will be just ignored. There's no way to fix your server in this case without IPMI.

Imagine webhosting where PHP error in Wordpress would make you unable to login to cPanel and FTP. Remote services always need to have something that AT LEAST resets their state to original one if there's no physical damage.

Next up they'll remove RAM from base option and say "priced from €19.99 / month".

    Dedicated server from $0.00/month!

    • base price covers IPv6 /56 subnet, 20TB bandwidth, forum based technical support
    • to add CPU, $19.99/month for Atom, $29.99/month for E5v4, $39.99/month for Xeon scalable or EPYC
    • to add GPU, $89.99/month for RTX 4000, $169.99/month for V100
    • to add RAM, $4.99/month for 8GB DIMM, $7.99/month for 16GB DIMM
    • to add storage, $19.99/month for 480GB SSD
    • to add IPv4, $1.99/month for single address
    • to add support, $2.99/month for Discord, $4.99/month for email, $19.99/month for telephone

    Nope. An IP4 ist €3.50!

    False advertising. ...
There is no way to get this server at €69.99 / month.

At least not practically. I agree, that's misleading.

And it's not at all necessary because if, supposed, they threw in a 480 GB SSD and sold the thing for €74.99, it still would be a very attractive offer!

Well, whatever, my first thoughts wrt the product itself:

    Plus:

    • obviously an attractive price
    • basically 1 month for free if paid annually
    • an attractive set of (almost) global locations

    Minus:

    • Promo ad shitfuckery and needlessly at that
    • Insane IP4 addon price (€3.50)

Unclear: They offer IPMI/KVM access at additional cost, so how are customers supposed to setup/config their server? Unless they have a satisfying answer to that I'd see that as a show stopper.

Hunch: they want to grow and want to use as stair step an "optimized" offer. "Optimized" as in "strip the product almost completely down so as to make an very attractive offer possible" (and then add on even normal things like disks and IPMI at a price).

I asked them, they offer IPMI/KVM for free to setup the server.

Priced from an unbeatable €69.99 / month

False advertising. and I hope mods will do something about it.
There is no way to get this server at €69.99 / month.
Base offer doesn't include disks and you cannot order without paying more than stated as "priced from X".

Next up they'll remove RAM from base option and say "priced from €19.99 / month".

If you cannot sell working machine at X price, you dont say pricing starts from X price. Simple.

It is indeed False advertising, maybe LET can do something about this @DP ?

Yeah, clearly this advertisement lacks clarity when it comes to conveying the product's base specification and pricing information.

It says it starts from €69.99, but there's no way to get it at that configuration and price, since it doesn't come with a disk

The cheapest configuration you can possibly end up with would be €79.98, and that's if you opt for the 1TB SSD (€9.99).

I'll update the price in the OP for now.

If I've made a mistake, please let me know ✌️

    Yes you are right sir

Changes very little for me. For me a dedi without IPMI/KVM always available isn't a product I'd buy. only exception would be when a provider is (a) known to respond to support requests very quickly (< 15 min), and (b) offering free IPMI/KVM within minutes upon request. But for that said provider would need to have very attractive other plus points to compensate for the need to request IPMI/KVM.

Now they change the ping to different server but no matter what server they change, that server is still gonna live behind one of their maxed out routing.

Looks like contabo service still shit after two years.

  • I have learnt why it is so congested for Singapore region at peak hour, at least I think why.

Apparently Contabo has a affiliate program which apparently give back credits for every customer. So through this affiliate program, these affiliate partners offered 7900 VPS at very low price of USD$40 for 31gb of ram.

Basically contabo network is not prepare to handle this influx of customers and of course since it is sold that cheap, contabo is earning nothing other than troubles thus since they earning nothing, they not interested to fix their network. According to these people, the congestion has been there since 2 months ago and gotta worse since then.

  • Network in Asia is very bad

Wel actually with this one you get 1gbit 32tb and after that 100mbit and yes then better buy a new server

Thats false. With the 32TB package, when you use more then 100Mbit for 10 days in a row your port gets limited at 100Mbit.

Isn't it always 100mbps for VPS? They let you go 1gbps when even their VDS doesn't?
