How to bypass Youtube Anti Ad-Block

A little offtopic, but, since you are experts in ad-blocking and don't want to open new topic:

I use Opera with some 50 tabs open for my daily stuff and, at some point a few months ago, some sites complained about me blocking their ads. I have followed all instructions and, to my knowledge, there is no ad-blocker enabled and Opera is set to allow, still the problem persists and some ads (not many and only on some sites, like news sites, the ones within the columns, not the footer/header/left/right) are clearly blocked since I see blank placeholders.
Any Opera expert in here to help?
    Thanks.

    Hi,

I don't use Opera but try to check all the options where an an-blocker might be enabled. Then disable every one, and keep only one active, like a DNS-level ad-blocker. These browsers come with their own ad-blockers. Some extensions like "Enhancer for YouTube", have their own ad-blocker option. Usually, when multiple ad-blockers are enabled, these anti-ad-blockers are triggered.

One more thing you can do is disable JS on sites/pages with anti-ad-blockers. Sometimes this works.

I know you must have your workflow setup on Opera, but maybe switch to a better Chromium-based browser such as Brave or Vivaldi if not a Firefox/LibreWolf.

Since you've already talked about all common solutions (some of which I also use) I'll mention yt-dlp, another nice option which I mainly use (in my VPS) for watching YouTube videos with specific subtitles in Android devices. This solution also bypasses all types of ads.

As you probably know in Youtube implementations for Android smartphone/TVs you can't normally choose any subtitle you want (even though all languages are actually ‏available internally, either natively or translated). You'll only get a few subtitles options at best to choose from, that's a known problem.

MPV is a media player (and an encoder) that integrates with yt-dlp (formerly youtube-dl) and yt-dlp fully supports subtitles and of course has no ads.

So in my linux VPS I use MPV from command line as an encoder to create (and then serve using ffmpeg) "live" HLS streams of YouTube videos so I can watch those videos in rare languages with burned subtitles of my choice (can be any language) in Android (or any device) and with zero ads.

This solution opened up to me a whole world of intetesting videos in foreign languages that I couldn't otherwise enjoy on the big screen.

With the ads bypassed It's two birds with one stone.

  • Most of the browser extensions are inconsistent and some are untrustworthy. I now use skipvids.com to watch youtube ad-free and watch and listen in the background. It's obviously not as good the youtube site/app, but its better than watching loads of ads and its free.

I wouldn't call YT a particularly good user experience. I'll take invidious over it's bloated interface any day.

FF + uBlock Origin + VPN and I never see adds, even on my phone. Not even the annoying "disable your adblocker" popups

Seen them twice, but yeah, dont see them any longer for some reason.

Never really had any issues on either Chrome or FireFox with uBlock Origin. Sometimes ads show etc, but it's rare and usually fixes itself or by just going in to the settings and updating filters manually. Anything further is not needed IMO.

I've still considered YouTube Premium as I watch a lot of YouTube and don't block ads on my phone (iPhone), but, it's waaaaay too expensive for what it is..

  • FF + uBlock Origin master race. My secret weapon has become Sidebery though. 50+ tabs with no scrolling whatsoever by using space that's 99% just wasted anyways? Hell yeah! :D

    1. You use a mobile web browser on your phone to watch YouTube?
    2. uBlock Origin has an Android version?

    What about invidious.io or piped.video?

  • Just use Russian vpn and no ads

Is a VPN needed in addition to FF and uBlock Origin to bypass the ads?

  • @MannDude said:
I think I've seen it once, and never since. Always connected to VPN (IncogVPN) and always using either FF, LibreWolf, or Brave. Also using UBlock in the browser.

    You don't use incogtube? :0
(idk if it even works anymore with yt blocking invidious and piped instances)

  • I have an app called Libretube on the phone, it blocks ads. It works flawlessly, half the time...

I'm still using the previous version of FireFox because extensions didn't work when the current edition was released..

Have they fixed this now? Getting blocked from more and more sites as time passes because of an old version..

For YouTube on my phone, using the fork of Vanced..

Nope, that works against you most of the times (depending on what VPN provider) I would suggest just ff with uBlock Origin.

Yet in an above comment you wrote that you use "FF + uBlock Origin + VPN"...

  • Have not tried Adskipper but it seemed pretty similar. Someone on reddit made an extension to instantly seek forward ads, causing them to end instantly. It's called Fadblock and been working flawlessly for a few months now

Yeah, that means that even with a VPN I still don't get blocked.

  • uBlockOrigin and Firefox works perfect for me for 10 years.

  • AdGuard works on my PC, still finding a way for iOS devices.

Yeh I would actually agree with this. On Chrome (Windows) it uses on average 600MB+ just to watch a video, its extremely resource intensive.

I use Opera with some 50 tabs open for my daily stuff and, at some point a few months

Opera has own ads blocker by default which can block most of the ads. make sure its disabled. for more information check this page https://help.opera.com/en/latest/security-and-privacy/#:~:text=To%20enable%20Opera's%20ad%20blocker,switch%20next%20to%20Block%20ads%E2%80%A6.

if everything is off, open devtools and goto network tab and check network request from there. you'll get an idea why and what requests are getting blocked. try to access these http request directly from the browser and see whether they loading or not.

Besides, try to browse these sites from another fresh browser or from incognito mode. If you don't see any ads, it's possible the DNS you're using has an ad blocker feature. For example, Adguard DNS can block ads. so your ISP may block them. Try to change your internet connection and see if these ads appear or not. Finally check if your antivirus has ads blocker feature or not. Some antivirus/anti malware can block ads.

    Free options:
    1. Brave browser - it plays while the phone screen is off or run in background
    2. Invidious instances
    3. Firefox + uBlock

    Paid options.
    1. Family plan subscription

Embedded videos don't (currently) show ads, so on desktop I have a bookmarklet that converts a youtube page to a simple page with the same video embedded. With firefox you can give bookmarklets querybar shortcuts so you don't even need the bookmark bar visible.

Trying to include the code here triggers the “that looks far too sus” traps. If anyone wants it let me know and I'll drop it on a web server somewhere.
