Selectel does a great job with Pi in Russia
No external drive for real performance.
And not in stock! But fortunately, otherwise I probably would have ordered.
Although I don't know if I could have easily paid from Western Europe given the current situation.
We actually just put this on the docket for finishing prototype this and next week 😁 just today I handed out the work to one of the guys.
All we were pending was an easy way to rack, poe, and m.2 drive. Finished designing that today. Needed to get a good amount of Pi's racked in a 2U space, but easily slide out and swappable if one dies. Got it to roughly 40 pies in 2U's, more or less.
Now we gotta prototype our first setup and then configure instant reinstall. Should have it figured out in 2 to 3 weeks hopefully. Then we build initial setup and start configuring. With any luck launching in a month or two.
Really nice to share the details. I'd love to work on a project like that.
It looks pretty dense already. Finally, you've achieved the density of the kickstarter project!
If you're doing without a micro-sd card, reliability should be good because it's often the cards that fail.
Unfortunately, I don't get a great throughput on your network from my home. There must be congestion somewhere.
But it's not your fault!
But even with ~100ms of ping and a reduced throughput I'll feel obliged to test it when it comes out.

PS: Will it be raspberry 4 or 5?
I was told that the raspberry 5 would be delivered at the end of January when I placed my order. So it seems unlikely to me that you'll be able to get it in stock.
No SD cards, that was my deal. No reliability there. I determined within myself we were gonna do it using m.2's or not at all 🙂
Not gonna do 5's, gonna do 4's and see how it goes. Once 5's are done being hype we'll slowly but surely swap out to them. 4's are gonna go cheap right now when 5's come out.
We were gonna do compute boards since I couldn't find a reliable way to do it, but that would require we get our own PCB boards done, which is what blade did. I didn't want to go down that route though. So far looks like we won't have to.
All comes down to quality SD cards.
We have been pretty happy with out SD cards.
This would be interesting for mini PCs with i3-N305 processors... Performance of that processor is similar to a Core i5-9400, but with just a 15W TDP. The N100 is decent too, with 6W TDP.
Totally understand the idea of Pi in the cloud but still can't get my head around IoT.
For home automation people want fast responses which they can get with a Pi in their home.
I think you should focus on Pi colo without a bias towards IoT.
After speaking with him a bit. With "IOT" he likely means low power draw devices, that are not the typical 19" formfactor. I am guessing similar to what @DataIdeas-Josh is doing with colo for embedded boards and nuc's,...
endoffice.com is one option not mentioned so far in this thread. I haven't used them so can't speak to the quality of service provided.
Have no problems with your description which I would suggest is what @jfreak53 should be saying. Specifying IoT will just cause more issues / queries.
That's correct, I probably should not of used IoT in my title or description. I meant small devices like a Pi. But its the term that came to mind when I started the thread 🤷♂️

Yeah basically small microservers or things like a pi or other small boards like it.
Yeah, IoT is more considered like a Nest or smart light bulb or even a smart washing machine.
In your case something like a Raspberry Pi or maybe some other kind of devices.
The biggest issue with small devices like that is how to rack them.
Mystic-Beasts have been in the RPi industry for awhile and even ran the Raspberry Pi website for awhile.

Yeah we actually designed a rack for our pi mounts to go inside regular 2U's.
