What providers do LET members recommend for free or low cost email?
This excludes providers like Google, Microsoft, Yahoo etc.
If some offer anonymous accounts which don't involve personal details, that will also good.

Which isn't happening with email.

No personal details, encrypted*, nice free plan, can attach a domain in free plan(https://skiff.com/blog/free-tier-custom-domain-launch).
No IMAP/SMTP, very much like Proton/Tutanota.
I use microsoft for free email hosting, works well and doesn't ask for too much personal info
inleed.xyz for a full blown inbox. Default page is swedish but theres language button further down.
Theres also seznam.cz. Site is full in czech but browser translation works just fine to register and manage.
mail.ru if you don't mind the russian part. Panel to add custom domain is in russian but browser translation works just fine.
For just simple incoming relay without ability to send, been using forwardemail.net. But recently they've been limiting on allowed tld for free account so those cheap spammy tld won't be able to add on free account.
Also, cloudflare email relay.
Those are the free ones i've used. For paid, can't go wrong with le's favorite mail provider, mxroute.
Does it offer POP3 and does it use a web interface?
this is minus!
MXRoute. Doesn't get any more affordable and is every bit as good as the big guys.
ProtonMail has IMAP/SMTP: I use it for a custom domain and desktop mail client. Not free, however.
Sorry for late reply.
It doesn't offer POP3 and offers a very nice web interface.
Their standalone applications for mobile devices are also very nice.
MxRoute
+1 for Migadu. Moreover, they're open to receiving cryptocurrency as payment, which makes the deal even more worthwhile.
+1 for MXRoute. Picked up a lifetime dead during 2020 Black Friday and have had zero issues. Was using zoho free previously.
mailinabox i know its not free but its self hosted and fairly light weight. 2 vcpu's and 2gb of ram should be enough to get you started with it.
Just putting this out into the world:
A lot of people who set up mailinabox end up with a MTA-STS policy that they had no idea about, it was inherent in the server config. They switch email providers and suddenly wonder why Gmail won't send any mail to them for like 1-2 weeks or something. If one person reads this here and I get one less ticket on the topic, tis a good day 😂
well see now i have to go check if i can get emails from gmail lol i knew about the MTA-STS records so i shouldn't have any issues
Howw?
I’ve had great luck with Purelymail. Very solid performer. And +1 for MxRoute
disroot perhaps?
Purelymail ftw! It ain't anonymous but really good.
I use Mailo for everyday use.
Webmail is very heavy, It requires mail software.
I just found this out there https://mailtie.com/
Maybe someone has tried it/ heard of it before?
Cool concept but looks like they use one IP, 51.222.143.141, for all of it. Given the nature of email forwarding and the way Gmail rate limits IPs that forward spam to it, I assume they're operating mostly by obscurity at the moment.
It's the same concept as forwardemail.net but it the first time I see them, maybe someone has some experience with them that they can share.
I could have sworn someone listed fordwardemail but I guess I'm imagining thing. They use only 2 IPs and there's plenty of people using them afaik
Well the better you filter spam the less IPs you need. Though with Gmail it can be tough because they'll consider an email spam when forwarded that they would have put directly into the inbox if sent direct, so it's definitely headache territory at least
https://mailfence.com/
Focus on privacy and encryption.
Unfortunately no IMAP/POP included in the free plan.
Is it like email forwarding service?
Yeah, same with Swiss-Made https://proton.me/mail focus on privacy. No IMAP / SMTP for free account though.
Mxroute if you have many domains & users. you can buy through resellers for $5-10 per year. The price depends on the storage. However, the spam protection is quite annoying.
I switch to Apple iCloud email service because I have purchased the iCloud anyway. It supports 5-6 email addresses and can share with a few people. It works in my case. The problem is you can't separate each domain inboxes.
If you are a group of people then start with Mxroute and migrate to Google workspace later
Is that a recent opinion? A lot has changed in the last few months to give customers more control over it.
Happy to see more and more people on here mentioning Inleed, a kind of small (relative) swedish provider mainly doing domains, but also operating their own infrastructure and they're ICANN-authorized too (and offer a nice control panel for managing domains).
I've used them for A LONG time. Mainly (and now only) for domains.
If you ever want to upgrade to their "premium" services with support etc, tha's fairly cheap too: https://inleed.com/web-hosting/ (although it's honestly slow, but the email's good!).
Their support is the best I've ever experienced in any provider I think. Often just 2-3 minutes by email, even in the middle of night.
