  • AFAIK they use Virtuozzo (or at least they did).. so vs. KVM is ๐ŸŽ vs ๐ŸŠ

Not bad at all, might replace a few contabo VPS since there was a price increase on those too although trustpilot reviews don't look that good at all.

So, I managed to get verified without providing ID. So here is a yabs of the cheapest VPS. Quite good CPU performance. Good network. NVME performance is a mixed bag, particularly bad 4k performance.

    Overall pretty decent deal imo.

Sorry for bad formatting I am on a phone right now.

I used Webtropia once like 3 years ago. Ordered one of the more expensive dedicated servers for game servers. A day or two later I started getting abuse notices for the IP which was used previously by another one of their clients. Eventually I left as they kept threatening me to respond and deal with the abuse from the past client that they had recycled the IP from or I would be terminated. They refused to acknowledge this mistake.

So make sure to have backups of anything important you host on them.

  • Isn't a YABS score of 500รท1000 per CPU core impressive for a shared VPS? The workstation in my basement scores only 350 per core bare metal (Xeon L5410). If these VPS's can sustain a full CPU load 24/7 and the cores are reserved to each user, these monthly prices are extremely competitive against AWS and Azure for the equivalent CPU performance.

I know from 10years ago, some said, to avoid them, because of bad support, but hows today, don't know.

  • Oh I didn't notice there was a thread about Webtropia already. I'll add updates here then (my thread was https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/184574/ordered-a-virtual-dedicated-server-from-webtropia#latest)

I added some monitoring for the CPU steal and I noticed it goes up to around 10% while doing backups. Isn't CPU steal supposed to be always zero if the cores are dedicated?

  • The website says they guarantee you CPUs, but they don't say they are dedicated to you. Their VDS line-up is different than what you apparently got (vserver).

Just found this offer by Webtropia/MyLoc after hearing good things about them from @Falzo and they go even cheaper than Contabo:

    Webtropia VPS XL: 24,99โ‚ฌ/mo

    https://www.webtropia.com/vserver.html

    • 10 vCores

    • 64GB RAM

    • 400GB NVME or 1600GB SSD

    • 1 Gbit/s (40TB)

    Contabo XL: 31,49โ‚ฌ/mo

    https://contabo.com/de/vps/

    • 10 vCores

    • 64GB RAM

    • 400GB NVME or 1600GB SSD (usually throttled SSD)

    • 1 Gbit/s (32TB)

    Quite the interesting stuff ;D
Webtropia even gives you a little bit more traffic. Ofc, some other details can differ (there's a long list), but base specs are..good!

    Edit :
Seems like all their plans kind of beat Contabo.
Even their smallest plan has 25GB more storage than Contabo, 40TB instead of 32 and 1 Gbit/s instead of 200 Mbit/s.

    All plans:

    Webtropia:

Note that the plans are also available with SSD instead of Nvme:

    Contabo:

    Wondering if they resell them.

Hey, I have rented a VPS at both contabo and webtropia. Can anyone check or have experienced high cpu steal on webtropia? While with contabo I have less than 1% cpu steal under full load. On webtropia VPS I have almost 20% cpu steal under full load. Has anyone experienced the same? I would like to know if it is worth asking support for a migration... Webtropia definitely gives me better results with SSD speed, but has slower RAM and worse CPU performance, but its probably often just luck (which CPU you get etc.). Especially the network speed is quite attractive on webtropia. MyLoc also seems to care a lot more about abusers, their spam score on uceprotect is wayyyyy lower than contabos and they aren't listed on any blocklist. That should probably be appreciated.

So I just did a GB5 benchmark and I also saw upto 20% cpu steal. I still score around 1100 single core and 4700 multicore (AMD Epyc CPU, 6 cores). Although this is worse than just a couple of days ago where I would often score 5500+ in GB5. So might have ended on a new node to start. Network is still stellar.

Curious to see how it performs in a week or so.

  • I wouldnt really care about the high cpu steal if the cpu I got was better, it only has 2.2Ghz (some AMD Epyc CPU), and I cant really complain since they only guarantee at least 2Ghz per core (I knew that beforehand, they probably state that somewhere, but I just asked support before I bought it). Contabo is much better here. The only thing I could complain about is the high CPU steal, but they could just say "that's normal" (which it probably is for them). And i mean 20% cpu steal for that price is still acceptable, its just not nice.

  • Is it better than contabo?

  • I am thinking to try colo of myLoc, how are they?

While webtropia is cheaper and the bandwidth is better, they seem to "steal" you constantly 20% of your cpu. Its not even load related or anything, its just capped to 80% usage (seems like thats the case for all vps). If you get a good and new CPU that may compensate it, but Contabo gave me less CPU-Steal (basically 0%) and the CPU performance (and general CPU) was way better. So if you don't care about smaller bandwidth with Contabo and are willing to pay a few โ‚ฌ more, i would definitely go with Contabo. WebTropia is like their cheap myloc own brand, and that's recognizable.

They are both overloaded in CPU , i would choose somewhere else to pay a higher price then to use cheap price and nothing works.

For anybody considering Webtropia's Cloud VPSs, I would advise against using them for production purposes, I have been using one VPS-S for 8 months and it's been the most unreliable provider I have ever used.
Yes, hardware and network seem very good for the price, but:

    • they have a 99.5% SLA and make no effort towards meeting it: my VM went down 8 times in total for at least 1 hour each time (always during the day), including the most recent one with about 40 hours of downtime, resolved only after opening a ticket and soliciting again the day after
    • their monitoring system does not work, VMs have to be restarted manually every time something happens (or at least I get that impression); to make things worse, this monitoring software also mistakenly banned my VM for mining because of some "faulty configuration" on their side, which caused a downtime of around 2 hours
    • VM has constant ~10% CPU steal time at idle, peaking over 20% under any kind of load; I opened a ticket, was told my node was heavily loaded and my VM was moved to another node, nothing changed

Support has been okay, not as fast as should be but okay.
I have now changed provider (Prometeus with their new K-POWER line) and won't be recommending Webtropia because of this experience.
