Bought another. Now I got one in CA and one in FR. Cool. Added to my PVE cluster this morning.

1G ipv6 port, and I use ipv6 only anyway, so best deal for me.

Could you please explain me how do you use ipv6 to have 1G? Do you login through putty to your server using ipv6 and then you are getting 1G? Thanks

Make sure you have IPv6 configured on your server (use their panel to get IPv6 info), now if you make request to and fro from that IPv6 address, it will probably give you 1Gbps up/down.

So we have a IPV6 subnet? Also anyone here have configured it on proxmox?

  • I tried to order one, but I'm on the 48 hour verification wait. I'm pretty sure by the time they approve the order I'll have missed out. Oh well, fingers crossed.

Well it's no longer available, following the link and on checkservers.ovh, so I wouldn't be too optimistic indeed.

I'm still wondering about @darkimmortal 's post above concerning the possibility to access the IPMI on some Kimsufi boards?

  • Got damn it, I couldn't resist.

    Got 2x INTEL SSDSC2KB960G8 960GB, both with 1846 power-on hours on 1000/100 network over IPv4.

Very solid deal, especially with these disks.

Uh oh. Well I guess it comes down to whether they reserved on for me already, or if they only reserve post validation. Will report back.

  • I bit the bullet and picked up a pair of these. 960GB SSD and 1gb IPv6 on both - not bad for the price. Will be a nice replacement for a OneProvider box with trash tier SSDs.

  • It's Out of stock again.

  • I grabbed one, also has 2x 960GB Enterprise Intel drives.

  • Absolutely great drives, those Intel enterprise... but I can't help but wonder wtf has happened to OVH networking? Is 90's favorite fast ethernet really the best they can offer? Not long ago, it seems they were p2p heaven, but what happened few years later to drop to such bad speeds?

Honestly, I've started skipping good 1G deals, because... well, it's 2023, and there are so many such great 10G deals. 100 mbps in comparison feels like ZX Spectrum, or Commodore 64 if that's your pair of shoes.

But, yeah, those Intel enterprise SSD drives really great. At full 100mbps speed like 2.5% busy.

You're really funny, I've been using this 960 GB Intel SSD and gigabit IPv6 server with Cloudflare for 3 months now, and I'm using it on WordPress sites with over 1 million unique daily visitors. The server seems to be idle, I can't even reach 1% usage.

For 99.99% of users, this server is more than enough, in fact, it would be better to offer a slightly lower spec version at a cheaper price.

I'm laughing at those who compare this dedicated server to unreliable and crappy VPSes that can have their resources throttled or rebooted at any time.

It not using Fast Ethernet, the server is connected at Gigabit and all of them have full Gbit download. And most also have the quirk of Gbit upload on IPv6.

Precisely. Downloading doesn't cost anything. Pushing data (uploading) is where the real cost is. Unlimited 1G upload would cost them a lot.

OK. But what about reliable VPS with 100x faster networking, costing fraction of the price you're paying? Do you laught at them too?

I think you haven't read my comment properly, you comment on how your CPU and disk are great, where I absolutely don't disagree with that. I only commented how OVH networking seems abysmal. In year 2023, at least...

And I certainly do agree that if you need just a little bit of network traffic, but CPU & disk much more, then this is a good deal. OK?

I do still wonder, when will OVH networking reach this decade/century and what actually went wrong there? Is it so much more expensive to give 1G on dedicated servers, like other providers do for years now, why go so low as 100 mbps?

IMHO it absolutely damages providers reputation. It's not super cheap NAT VPS for peanuts, it's a powerful dedicated server connected with... coax cable? What?

The VPS that you consider to be the most reliable is completely useless compared to a dedicated server.
The reliability of VPSs depends entirely on them being idle, and if you start using them, you'll start having problems.
The good results you see on YABS don't guarantee anything.

100*100 = 10G, so how much of the 10G bandwidth can you use, before expending your limit or getting kicked for abuse? On OVH you can use the port 24x7 with no issue whatsoever (30 TB is doable).

@maverick said: if you need just a little bit of network traffic

So you should reconsider in which offer you get "a little" of network traffic and in which a sizable amount.

Which providers give unmetered 1G on dedis for 15-20 EUR?

Well, more than that actually. I do have some very affordable ones with "only" 18 TB traffic included. Then one which is theoretically unmetered, in practice at least 44 TB and double that not a problem (provider explanation). Finally, the last one has 75 TB included. All of them 10G. Also have one 2.5G with 50 TB. All of them really have excellent networking.

I guess you have a point here, can't complain about the price everything considered.

But, I still remain a bit dissapointed that such handsome server has so limited NIC speed. And yes, I wouldn't mind higher price if the networking was better. And wouldn't even require unmetered, just give some decent traffic package included, and all is well.

OVH will not give better speed on KS range as they want to push SYS and then OVH range if people are looking for better bandwidth.

This. If you really want better port speeds and are willing to pay for it there are higher tiers available. At 14.99 euros for 100% dedicated 32GB 1g unmetered via ipv6 this is a pretty massive steal no matter which way you slice it.

  • I installed a few KS with debootstrap on GPT disk with a BIOS boot partition (EF02) but my latest KS-LE-1 not booting from these disks. Is it it possible that motherboard not tolerates the GPT with protective MBR and must use MBR partition scheme? If yes, how can I install grub to the disk's master boot record?

These machines may not support EFI/GPT, AFAIK. You have to format using MBR in that case.

The interesting for me is that on some KSs it worked that boot in BIOS mode from GPT disk...

  • So can I use this to stream 4k remuxes using ipv6 without crossing the 100 mbps limit?
