Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) and Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) are the ones who control the internet. They have the kill switch. Sure, the internet basically is a huge network of computers, servers and routers, so in theory everyone controls it. However, humans work with words, while computers work with numbers, so the actual kill switch resides in this conversion, which is under IANA's control. As such, corporations and politicians own the internet practically, even though in theory consumers do.

    My sister in law.
She confessed it one evening a couple of years ago while being drunk after dinner. I might even find the VHS tape as evidence.
OTOH that's good because usually she's a nice person ... but don't get her upset (she can be a real bitch when she's p_ssed off).

Learn what from Google (it has lots of services)?

And what does some religion's personality have to do with Google?

I made this question to myself also research about this but i want the truth who is behind the internet ? Who is inteligent enough to answer the truth ?

I do! ... I made it in the 1960's... I read somewhere it was the 80's but take no notice

Seriously though the Internet is a massive disjointed network of equipment from different people / countries/governments all connected together

There is a patent for the "Internet" is owned by a guy who refuses to sell it for "evil" (big corporations/profit) ... I think be died a few years back

So really no one "owns" the Internet but we do all own out own piece of it

BT Internet own the internet as they developed it 😂😂😂 it’s like in film a small box with red light and button on top

  • Back when I was teaching I used the following -

Two devices interconnected and intercommunicating (in the comms world) is a point to point connection.

A number of devices (>2) that are interconnected and intercommunicating is network.

A number of networks interconnected and intercommunicating is an Internet.

An Intranet is a private internet.

    Still seems applicable now.

So as others have said the Internet belongs to many different organisations that simply interconnect and intercommunicate. Turning off one network does not mean you turn off the Internet.

So your answer is no one owns the Internet.

  • My ISP owns the internet. Without them, I wouldn't have been able to reply this question.

  • I believe @ChrisMiller claims he's the owner of the internet once. So I believe in that.

  • Would it sort of be accurate to say: Tier 1 ISP's own the Physical layer (1) and RIR's own the Network layer (3) of the OSI layer model? Don't know who owns the other layers.

The same nobody who killed JFK and MLK, that's who.

  • I want you to know this is not a spam reply. The truth is that God owns the internet, and he lets us use it untill he no longer wants it or needs it. Now you know may say that that dose not make any sence but let me tell you why he owns it, without people the internet is not going to work, no AI or robout can manage the internet nor can it run on it's own so a higher power than man must run the internet then a higher power than man owns it. Also God owns everthing the Earth and all that is in it and the universe cause he created it, so too the internet.

  • Chuck Norris does !
