Pulsed Media 2022 Black Friday/Cyberweek Specials + T-Shirt & HDD Giveaway + Seedbox Raffles!!

Black Friday is here again! :D It's hard to top what we did last Black Friday, tough tough act to follow up on! :)
It's been a very tough year for a lot of people indeed, us including!

We have upgraded most servers, almost everything comes now with SSD cached storage, and large portion is either AMD EPyC or AMD Ryzen powered as well! :) Further we even overhauled our provisioning algos to be more fair, now there is a much bigger gap between small and large plans on the same service group! This means the bigger you buy even more performance you get compared to before. There's a very real chance for semidedicated / dedicated at the higher end now.

The performance impact has been tremendous, near to the point that all these power savings are almost a moot point as we have to upgrade our transit H1/2023 accordingly ;)

Thanks For Your Support as always during these tough times for us Europoors!

Three months later: we can’t cover the amount of electricity price increase that we came up with that we are forced to triple your monthly fee. Good luck with our next raffle.

Oh. Our data center is “green”. You know, a hoax but we happen to advertise it just for the sake of it.

  • For anyone going to "refresh" the raffles - it's "only" 2 months discount, not recurring.
It's on the page, however seems to be missing here from post.

    Turned out I already had a V1000.

    First Payment Amount: 20.22€
    Recurring Amount: 111.24€

Damn, these power prices in Finland must be insane.

Lol. 2 months later, quintuplized price.
Never thought of that coming. Should’ve thought even bigger.

So you basically increased the price on Loyal old customers and explained how that price wouldn't work, a lot of clients complained, but some of us understood and stayed on board with the new pricing as it made sense due to energy prices, etc. And now you basically offer the same price (that you one claimed was "unprofitable") again for new customers?

    Did I miss anything?

    Sounds unfair to me.

Edit: it wasn't mentioned here, I did not see comments, the discount only for 2 months, not recurring. My apologies!

    Added clarification here too.

Good at least without transcoding, with transcoding it depends on too many factors of how much CPU there is to spare.

@Wicked said: Damn, these power prices in Finland must be insane.

Fingrid has been warning of potential outages and potentially prices peaking to 4.00€/KWh during this winter ... just before they have to start doing blackouts. Yeah it's a bit calmer right now, but spot pricing is already increasing again.

I don't know many businesses where one of the core production expenses could 5-15x increase without an issue...

And this concern the whole Europe, not just Finland.

Those are first 2 months ... Not recurring. And yes, those are VASTLY unprofitable.

No one could do -80% sustainably profitably for long term on environment where costs have increased as much as they have now. These are NOT recurring

  • Cool, might pick one up for some testing

Yes, I just saw the comments here, it is not recurring, makes sense now. 👍

There is a recurring V10G promo also on offer on the same page. We just cannot do anything unsustainably as wild as last year, they were not profitable to start with. We took a loss on every one of those crazy mega deals we did a year ago. Getting to the price rule 7€ for shared (seedbox !== shared web hosting) was tough even before this huge inflation + energy crisis

It was fine, it was marketing ... until inflation jumped to like 30-40% + energy crisis.

Even that recurring V10G 16TB promo is unprofitable for us, and we just hope to make it back in the backend at current cost basis.

That's why we have been working around the clock for months now and upgrading hardware, we see a path back to similar profitably even at current electricity rates, it just cannot be done overnight, not with the mass and amount of legacy we have.

We don't want to follow @cociu and involucrate ourselves afterall, so tough choices have had to be done! For customers profitable to start with the price increases were almost marginal (15%), and 10G dedi sales has increased a lot too.

Transitions are always tough and painful

In a few hours once i have set up these last 3 BFES we will probably start posting some flash deals here or discord etc.

    Everyone excited yet?? :D

Is it going to be sth like last year's BF deals?

I contacted their support about this, as it's a 253.25% increase in bi-annual fee
At 10 euros a month it's only 6 euros a month less than their most premium non-dedicated seedbox. At 23 euros a month (the price without the black friday deal) it's completely retarded.
(For reference, the original price was 24 euros for 6 months or 53 euros before BF deal)

Raffles new added rate was just increased :)

Also our highest end shared seedbox is 70€ a month, not 16€.

I meant the 3TB version but it seems as if you made the BF deal untenable on purpose.

The M10G might be in cases faster than Dragon-R, so you are STILL getting an awesome deal. It depends a bit on what you need AND did you get lucky and you are on a ryzen server.

Dragon-R is awesome with their EPyC CPUs, but Ryzen has the clockspeed advantage.

I guess in a 1-2 years from now we will have lineups depending on what CPU you have, and the backend storage is so fast it becomes a moot point to differentiate, infact IOPS/MiB/s limits are almost given at that point ... BUT for now we must get past this energy crisis and back on solid ground.

I know it pisses people off, but really everything sub-10€/Mo was at the ragged edge of sustainability BEFORE inflation + energy crisis. It's tough all around.

We made an oopsie, and our growth strategy was the absolute worst possible given this situation, it truly was an existential risk. I don't know how much just bought servers are going to ewaste, but it's a non-trivial sum.

I have put a lot of my own personal funds lately to make sure Pulsed Media continues and every obligation is honored. The path is now very very clear, and we will come out stronger than ever, and i truly believe that performance / hardware backend wise we will be the absolute #1 seedbox provider in 2-3 years time. Keep an eye out for beta services as we test out the tech behind our plans.

Seedboxes are not like VPSs, neither are they dedis. They are somewhere in between. Average seedbox user needs like 50x the performance average VPS user needs. They are expensive to operate.

It's been quite a struggle in all regards, and we just hope we can continue to bring the superb value we are known for. Right now tho, we need to concentrate on the higher end, the low end (aka lowest cost) is the most sensitive segment for any operation price disruptions (ie. energy).

The real inflation rate is insane right now in Finland, not the fake official one. Food is about +40-50%, fuel is +100% etc. Kinda certain rest of the Europe is not fairing much better.

Thanks for Choosing Pulsed Media, it is much appreciated.

You should have included specifics on how BF deals were being targeted in the newsletter. Now I have an M10G S that is more expensive than the ones currently being offered, of course with the coupon.
And it is not at all apparent that anyone's services would see a 253% increase in price.

How does this post not break the VPS selling rule? This being a seedbox and not a vps argument is bullshit. Take this post down, it doesn't belong in LET.

Only post offers that are less than or equal to $10/month, or equivalent recurring.

  • Hi,

We will shortly migrate your server *** to other servers. We are doing consolidations and reconfigurations due to the energy crisis.
You will be upgraded to a new server with new software & hardware paradigm which should help us mitigate operating costs tremendously WHILE offering a tremendous performance upgrade.

New nodes can be quite busy for the first few days or so as users are being migrated in, sorry for the inconvenience.

You will shortly receive new login details e-mail. with new server URL and password. You can start using this new server as soon as you receive this e-mail. Old server login credentials may be reset to the original password to facilitate data migration.

Your data will be migrated, but that can take upto 4 days to complete. Our new migration code tries to "catch-all" except couple pieces of config, if there are conflicts or too much data migrated, please let us know. Please backup everything important at this time to be safe!

Bonus disk quota will be unfortunately reset also at this time, but your maximum remains unchanged. It simply needs to be reallocated as per new server resources and global limits allows us to do that. Check Wiki article for Free Bonus Disk Quota for more information about this.
If you will be over quota on the new server, please remove data from old server first, otherwise migration will restart if migration has not finished yet. If migration has fully finished you can remove from new server only. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Old server's torrent clients will be disabled shortly after all migrations have started. Old server will be removed completely within a week, and there will be no separate notification of that. So any backups you need to do, please do promptly as the old server will be wiped at that time.

    Best Regards,
    Aleksi
    Pulsed Media
