Hello guys. Is it possible to install Windows to their root vps?

yes. right now they have windows server 2019 (trial) as ISO available, but you can also upload/use your own ISOs. you'll have to bring your own license though.

  • @Falzo said:
if it says VPS then it'S not going to be a root server obviously ;-)
in former sales this offer was something like 2c/8G/160G - but does not have to be like that again. the range of VPS 500 is probably the right guess though.

    Yer it's very unlikely :D

But technically a root server is still a VPS, right !?

@Falzo what would be different in vserver vs Root server at Netcup?

    Thanked by 1nocloud
  • @nocloud said: But technically a root server is still a VPS, right !?

Of course, but netcup use the terms vServer and Root-Server to distinguish the two products

AFAIK thee root servers are dedicated cores.

vServer - shared vcores with fup, quite a bit of cpu steal, up to 1Gbps for 80TB and up to 100Mbps after 80TB, 99.6% minimum annual availability
Root server - dedicated vcores, no/very little cpu steal, up to 2.5Gbps for 120TB and up to 200Mbps after 120TBm, 99.9% minimum annual availability

Root servers are WAY better value in my opinion. More expensive, but benefits are huge.
vServers are only good if you need to have big ssd & high traffic limit on very strict budget and don't need consistent CPU performance nor use CPU more than 30% average.
With root servers you can use 80-100% CPU for long periods of time and you'll be fine.

I am still struggling to decide how many more idlers I need to get this season...

Definitely RootServers are the way to go IMHO

  • Should I keep this server, is it overpriced since the CPU is not used by Netcup anymore?

    RS 4000 SSDx4 G8SE ADV19 offers the following features:
    Leistungen
    Festplatte: 560 GB SSD
Arbeitsspeicher DDR 4 ECC: 32 GB
    Prozessorkerne: 6 dediziert
    Prozessor: Intel® Xeon® Gold 6140 / 6230

    15,95 €/m

Is the 15,95 €/m including VAT and already the adjusted price after their increase?

Apart from that it probably depends on your priorities. 32GB RAM is not available at that price anymore... if you decide to replace it/let it go, please pm me, I'd be interested to take it off your hands.

Thanks for this great summary @AXYZE!

Must agree with you that RS seems to be much better value, considering everything.

depends what the SE (special addition includes)

Im waiting to see what the : VPS Black Moon is. assuming it's the VPS 500 G10s with double disk. but not sure... could be a smaller root server!

Yeah, i hope so too. Also wonderinf what RS Black Galaxy is.

  • @chiezyy said: Also wonderinf what RS Black Galaxy is.

Probably a RS 8000 with a few more cores and 1.5x disk.

In my view, that's still a great offer

Appeared a few days ago for a few seconds. It's 500G10 with a reduced price if won't be changed.

@IamJAX said: Isn’t Black Friday price same as regular price?

    Festplatte: 320 GB SSD
    vs
    Festplatte: 640 GB SSD

Those SE mostly have bigger disk (or some more cores sometimes)
Plus seems like shorter pre-paid payment cycle - 3 months BF, 6 months normal one.

No, those offers are not "amazing" anymore :P

    Thanked by 1Falzo
  • Regular: 320GB disk, BF deal: 640 GB disk

  • @AXYZE said: quite a bit of cpu steal

Not necessarily. One some nodes there is no cpu steal and you can use the CPU as you need with no trouble. It depends who your neighbors are..

    Thanked by 2Falzo henryford
  • here is the live offers, more added as we go through the day.

I'm talking about experience of 4 people here and external benchmarks (example VPSBenchmarks where they had 10.0+ steal during tests which completly destroyed web performance test).
If you have different experience then please tell me whats your "st" is like during CPU use in peak hours :)

RS Black Galaxy looks nice for 58? A month.. same as the cheapest hetzner ax line. But with 3TB storage and 16 threads.

  • @AXYZE said: If you have different experience then please tell me whats your "st" is like during CPU use in peak hours

Often 0. Can go up to 2.2... pretty good bang for the buck IMO. And more than fine for most workloads.

  • WoW!

  • Does anyone have specs of the netcup offers?

I cant seem to find anywhere

  • No, they are not released until it's the time.

I can confirm that. I have an RS1000 G9.5 from easter offer. Steal usual 0.0, very rarely goes up to 2--3 but it is very acceptable for that price. I am very satisfied with this, the IO and network usualy very good despite of that it is a shared resource.

And, since a few weeks, I don't experience the daily freeze on my RS and I not see that in logs.

I have the best experience with them in the past few years.

    Thanked by 1pbx
  • Okay.. this sucks.... dilemma.. Either I can choose for netcup black friday deal, 16 threads (root server), 64GB RAM and 3TB SSD space... or I go with hetzner (maybe black friday) AX 41 NVME with increased higher multi core score (40%) but almost same single core, but with 1TB nvme space (but set into RAID1, so 512GB space). With almost the exact same price.

Yes, only the RS 4000 attracts me, and since sharing a RAID10 SSD wouldn't have a good IO, I gave up. If it was nvme, it would be a epic deal
