    I don't see any problem. I have been using an iPhone 3 as security wireless camera for more than 5 years :)

    i did, but all of them have crappy power consumption or none listed (from googling)

    the problem is, if a server eats 50W in idle it's just useless for me, even if it's free

    That works, although it also depends on what you need - ryzen has better single core performance, but if you need a lot of threads then picking up a Xeon server could be your best bet. Honestly, I’d say that buying a few used parts from eBay along with a ryzen cpu should be cost effective and powerful, it’s all up to you!

    Power consumption kills me on home servers here as well. I went to less then 15w CPUs and 2.5" drives years ago. It made a huge difference in power consumption. I then do all the heavy lifting on VMs.
