Recommended Self Storage alternative to Seafile and Nextcloud

Hi all,

looking at self hosting my backups just wondering how successful people have been. I really like dropbox but it's getting expensive now.

Interested in what others are doing.

  • Just curious, why not Seafile nor Nextcloud?

I use Nextcloud, but if you're searching for alternatives you may want to take a look at:

    • SparkleShare
    • Pydio (I use it in the past when it was called AjaXplorer, don't know what they are doing now)

im not a fan of webdav for security

  • I find the rclone list useful

I thought nextcloud data could be hashed and sent via TLS. I always considered it reasonably good security.

AjaXplorer was amasing, we had that integrated. Then they rebranded as pydio and it got bloated, very bloated. Now we use "single file php filemanager" some guy made to keep that simple :)

But ultimately for backups, all you need is a SSH box and rsync :)

i would use rsync but i'd like to share files from the box too.

    Seafile doesn't use WebDAV normally.
    It has its own protocol.

Mentally strong people use plain SFTP though.

For backups (like archive files)? Or something more? When someone says backup, I think SFTP/SCP/RSYNC which is probably not the case.

I guess you want something to preview files etc?
