Private message me your IP, I really would hate for this to be another situation where it's completely our fault as you are trying very hard to resolve this yourself and I'm sure spending a good amount of time on it so it must be frustrating.
I'll do a quick check and verify it's not on our end so I don't feel guilty in a few days.
I haven't been following it but it's very possible if nothing immediately works we have at the very least a situation involving someone else's VM being misconfigured or maliciously using your VM's IP address. Just a total guess with no information, but I'd like to check and see what's going on if I have some time in between tasks.
Also feel free to ignore me if my response makes no sense and you already have basic connectivity but trying to do some specific other configuration.
Maybe later, for now you should bring your interface UP as is reported
state DOWNin your ip addr show - aka it's pre-configured, but disabled.https://tldp.org/HOWTO/Linux+IPv6-HOWTO/ch05s02.html
Thanks.
Up now but still problematic.
There's no IP on that interface. Not a huge surprise it can't get to the interwebz.
Try: nmcli device reapply ens3
Now it's up, but it has no IP, no gateway, nothing... yet you configured it in network-scripts?
This looks like a mess, you sure that network-scripts even work? ^.-
Have you checked syslog why it's not worky?
Add IP manually, add gateway/route, see if it's even "working" on VirMach end and then later try to figure out why network-scripts is getting ignored/refusing to work.
He configured the network-scripts but then didn't use them to bring up the interface. He just issued an ip command to bring it up.
I assumed he restarted the VPS after editing those scripts as they are read only on boot. (as he has ens3, not eth0 now), but maybe I overestimated his knowledge :P
Any chance of the Ryzen button working on Dead Hosts?
I'd expect it to work (since it just recreates the VM elsewhere) ?
@VirMach Today marks the 3 week anniversary of my open ticket about my VPS going down from the migration, still not so much as an acknowledgement. I'm not a big fish but 3+ weeks of unannounced downtime is an eternity, especially with zero communication. I'm at a loss what to do.
When was the last time you tried turning it on?
On 18 VPS the worst happened to the only vps I really mind. Migrated really too far away for my need and now it down boot. ( No VNC, so I guess it's the whole node, but it's a been two days). Kinda piss. On top of that I need to avoir reinstall at all cost.
Right before posting, wouldn't want to find out it was fixed after complaining
VNC fails with:
Rescue mode appears to boot but is inaccessible (gave it ~1hr of attempts, connection just times out).
Some of my VMs in FFME006 are dropping off again. Can't access from the CP too
I had one that wouldn't boot also. One day it just started so I figured I'd ask. You'd be surprised how many people fail that test. ;-)
Just out of curiousity, in settings, what's your boot order preferences?
HDD then CDROM typically, although I've also tried CDROM then HDD to troubleshoot rescue mode (tbh I don't know how it works behind the scenes, that may have been counter-productive, but I tried both anyway). I've also tried HDD-only (tbh I don't know why I don't just leave it on that...)
Solus always tells me it booted successfully, but status is always offline afterwards, and VNC fails with the aforementioned error.
EDIT: It should go without saying that ssh times out in both a "regular" boot and a rescue boot (and solus reports a status of offline for both).
Have you unmounted CD? Sometimes it fails to work if anything is mounted.
Absolutely
You're changing the Boot Order while the machine is powered off, right? Just for the complete grins, what happens if you select the blank at the top?
Yeah, until the Status updates to online nothing else will likely work.
I went through all things with @Ademan last week. It is most likely the VM did not create properly and only Virmach can fix it. He has been waiting patiently.
@SeaScoot - You may still have some work to do to make sure this is not on your end. # comment out any line that includes "DHCP" in your
ifcfg-ens3file. Also move theifcfg-eth0file from/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/to/root/as it does not need to be in the network-scripts dir. Then reboot. If that does not do it, what JabJab said is a good idea.
Only after getting the interface up, with an IP, and a default route showing correctly, if it still does not work then maybe PM Virmach.
Yeah, I remembered you working with him. I just didn't remember tinkering with the boot order is only reason I asked him.
I mean, from my perspective it's been off this whole time. I definitely haven't been diligent about pressing the "Power off" button before every boot order change though... going to repeat some of my prior tests with that in mind.
Seems to have no effect, Solus still displays the old boot order. The behavior when pressing "Boot" is unchanged. (VNC fails with the same error, ssh times out)
Thanks again for all your help troubleshooting!
Thanks to you as well! I'll report back what I find on the boot order tests being sure to "Power Off" in between (though I'm pretty confident it'll be the same).
EDIT: words
Duh. Sorry, was doing two things at once and forgot for a moment that yours didn't power on at_all. Hitting Power Off every iteration shouldn't make a difference.
Okay, thanks for that. One of my systems actually changed its behavior selecting the top blank line once. I wondered if that was coincidence or not. Likely was.
Agreed. I am sure @FrankZ mentioned it's worth taking a minute or two between commands. Sometimes if you hammer the buttons too fast it hasn't completed the previous command before you send it the next. I have to agree with him though it's likely you're just stuck. :-(
Yeah I kind of inferred it too, kinda hard to gauge but I give it "a few minutes" usually.
@VirMach what does X mean in node NYCB033X? Why it is not connected to Solus nor does in-house OS-installation? By the way, the server is good.
@VirMach may I know how long should I wait for the paid migration to TYO? Ticket #121447
@VirMach dallas 06 is down
Mine also down..
Message from vps control panel.
“Operation Timed Out After 90001 Milliseconds With 0 Bytes Received“
I don't think it is just DALZ006. DALZ003 seems down as well.
EDIT: These are the only two nodes I am on in Dallas so I can't say if others are down as well.
Maybe not down, but no network connectivity.
