GCP Always Free Tier
Hello,
If anyone is/has used the GCP always free e2.Micro VM, which is supposed to be free forever.
I would like to know how much outbound bandwidth is free.
The free tier info page does mention something related to the North American region, but I'm still confused how much bandwidth are they providing.

What's confusing here? (aside from the really low number). Also, this is for the Premium tier, afaik Standard Tier isn't included withe Always Free
PS: Post your credit card number for double bandwidth
Lmao, i Don't have a credit card, 🥲
So I can only upload 1GB?🥲👌
You have to pay extra for every 1 GB more, so to have GCP free tier you need to provide a credit card.
It's 1GB currently, but note that egress to Australia and China is never free.

It'll be 100GB starting October.
Ooooo Nice, Thanks for the update!
um, international Debit cards work too!
Oh cool finally the free instance will be usable
Actually!
That's interesting. I've still been using it with 1gb to run ZNC (for which it is plenty). 100gb would make it usable for many more use cases.
So that anyone can put you into a financial trouble with a mere "ping"?
like tinyweasel
Well, even 1GB is plenty to put service monitoring there, send API requests, hop-server for SSH to another servers (so you whitelist one static IP in other servers, very good for security) etc.
If you want to protect your server ssh, I would recommend you to use cloudflare zero trust. You can even connect to a server with no public IP.
how many gc free vps can i have?
NO

It's finally October, https://cloud.google.com/storage/pricing#cloud-storage-always-free
, the changes are reflected here but on the https://cloud.google.com/free/docs/free-cloud-features#compute page it still shows 1GB..
Yes, unfortunately, compute still only gives 1GB. It would've been nice to have a free VPS with 100GBs bandwidth!
May be article not updated yet, Some Lazzy worker
Right that is usable now. From what I'm reading, the free tier specs are:
2 vCPU
1 GB RAM
30 GB storage
100 GB egress bandwidth
Sounds decent enough, pretty good even. Any spec where I'm wrong?
The CPU has a funny bursting policy and will cap your usage if you exceed it, but other than that yeah you've got it right. There's also only select regions that are involved.
iirc egress bandwidth is "bandwidth that leaves google network". In the past I've been able to push way over 1GB to google drive using rclone, but haven't checked in awhile.
Ah yeah thats also an important distinction to make. They specifically count egress outside of the Google network. You can do whatever you want with Google services for free (Though wouldn't bank on it, do a smaller test before going nuts)
Yep!
Um, the 100GB is yet to be reflected on the free tier page, also the storage is painfully slow, i got like 10~20mbps on yabs. But considering it's free for lifetime, i think it's its too good to be true

Seems like Upload to gdrive wont be counted as egress
Awesome! Didn't know that was documented. Do you have a link to that page?
Not just Google drive, all of Google's services,
https://cloud.google.com/vpc/network-pricing
Seems that the 100GB/mo free egress transfer is only for Cloud Storage but not Compute Engine. Free egress transfer for Compute Engine is still 1GB/mo.
