VMspecialist Pro-Rata Refunds

Hey all,

With VMspecialist closing up in the next week or so, I was just wondering if anyone's heard anything about the pro-rata refunds that were mentioned in the announcement email?

The email said you'd be contacted separately but haven't heard anything as of just yet. I've put a ticket in but fully appreciate it's probably manic there at the moment so was curious if anyone's heard anything before I bug them further

Cheers

  • I've heard nothing, and been busy so I've not chased. I hadn't noticed the end had come so close, I'll have to chase as I'm only a few months into an annual payment…

Out of interest, I looked them up on Companies House. The company has now been dissolved (although dated tomorrow), so I'm not holding out much hope of seeing that money back.

I still think it's a shame, the VM I bought on BF was awesome, probably my best server apart from my KS-LE, and I was just about to deploy to it after idling since purchase when the announcement came.

I'm sure @Mr_Tom will deal with this accordingly, and professionally.

Just be patient and give him some time.

I didn't mean that negatively, every interaction I had with @Mr_Tom was positive. But once the company is dissolved, technically it no longer exists and all its assets (if any) belong to the government. So if he was to give us refunds, it'd probably create even more of a legal mess.

  • Agreed with you folks - every time I've had a chat with @Mr_Tom he's been a class act!

In the same boat as I suspect a few people - I've put a couple hundred quid in so hoping for a bit of it back to put towards the SYS box I got as the alternative, which is why I ask

A shame VM Specialist is going

Apologies for the delays in contacting people.

The refunds remaining are mostly from black friday last year - but they will still be processed it's just not worked out as quick as I had planned.

I'll still miss this server when it's gone, and hope you'll return to the business sometime soon, @Mr_Tom ! I loved your attitude, friendly chats, BF banter, your control panel was very clean and nice to use, and the BF bargains just never stopped coming!

It sounded like there was a lot going on behind the scenes, so I hope whatever the issues were can get resolved and you can move onto some new project and make it a success!

And thanks for still sorting out the refunds!

  • @Mr_Tom is a scammer, guy can't even get an ASN and a few /19s

Very fast ban, thanks mods, this was probably tinyweasel.

  • Hey @Mr_Tom hope all's well - was just following up as I haven't had anything through yet.

Anyone else on the BF offers in the same boat?

  • ah, I almost forgot about this.
I haven't got a refund of the BF deal either.

  • cececece Member

I did not get refund either

  • ralfralf Member

    Nor I

  • I've got full refund of my VM that was yearly paid upfront. I asked TOM to refund me in full and not pro-rate to 11 months as I could never put this in production and he complied. Hats off to his professional behavior and communication... I wish him all the best for his future.

  • Still nothing unfortunately - going to give it till Monday else may have to phone the credit card

There are still some refunds left unfortunately. Not how I intended this to work out and it's probably not reassuring for people given the delays but I am working on making sure everyone who is due a refund gets what they are due.

  • Still not had anything - at this stage I think the money's gone... :'(

Contact your credit card company. No serious provider says what he said above and then doesn't get back for a month+.

    Hehe.

  • Must say I'm disappointed - I let @Mr_Tom off assuming the best as he's been decent up till now but this is beyond a farce. Credit card's problem now I suppose

    What about you @MeAtExampleDotCom?

  • daffydaffy Member

Same here, not a word from him sadly.

Nothing in email or the account I paid with. Though due to a sequence of greater inconveniences¹ I never did chase at all.

[1] family accident & illness, followed by a two-week dose of covid² which I'm still not entirely right after, and a stack of admin I'd procrastinated over long enough that things were close to EOL and/or starting to break…

[2] after two years of avoiding it, boom!

  • ralfralf Member

I had contact maybe like a month ago saying he was delayed but was going to do it.

I paid on debit card because I like disposable card numbers for security when buying online, but the downside is I don't get the credit card protection.

While obviously I'd like the money back, at this point I don't see it happening. I still think that he was on dodgy grounds offering the money back after the company was dissolved, because the company shouldn't be doing any transactions at that point. Technically, we were creditors, so if it was declared bankrupt we would still be owed monies and would be last in the queue to get the money back probably, but I think in the situation that auditors are brought in to solve it, it's done before the company is struck off the register. So who knows?

  • Anyone opened a ticket?

  • tjntjn Member

    I too haven't received a refund, but I lost £12, so not a huge loss I guess.
What's interesting (probably not actually) is that the invoices have shifted to AUD in Blesta, or was that always the case?
