    Push-up stream 1080p is 5MB/s per viewer.
1Gbps port can serve 25 viewers.
When I have more than 25 simultaneous viewers at one location, I'll buy 10Gbps VPS.

No need, honestly 100Mbps works for me.

I run one website with a decent amount of traffic with Mautic installed, and a couple of generally lower traffic websites for my clients.

I get by on a 2 core ryzen / 8gb ram server with 1Gbps, but honestly, I could put it on a Kimsufi with an SSD.

I have only 100Mbps broadband installed in my flat.
If I have a big business and serve thousands of customers, then I'll need some servers with 10Gbps bandwidth. But of course I don't. Now Oracle ARM instance with 4Gbps network just works for me.

no need, i never passed over 50Mbps for clean http traffic... (of course with cdn)

  • Kimsufi taught me that 100mbps is plenty.

1Gbps should be more then enough for most users, so I think it is more important, that the vps could realy and always use 1Gbps instead of allowing 10Gbps for everyone.

10Gbps is nice when restoring large backups (1TB+) over the network. Otherwise I'm usually fine with 1Gbps.

10Gbps will eventually become the standard though, given some residential connections are 1Gbps or higher now.

AT&T has what now. 5Gbps to the residential now. Crazy.

Init7 has been here for a long time mind you.

For standard website it doesn't really matter. Only if you offer a lot of downloads / videos files there is some slight advantages

If the fee is like ~$5/mo, then yes. But otherwise no.
Over 60% are using 500Mbps~1Gbps+ Internet here, but that doesn't mean that we should upgrade to 10Gbps. Unless you are randomly streaming several 4K videos or so, I think it's fine to just stick with 1Gbps.

What kind of 1080p live stream uses 40 Mbps/viewer?

I think you need to uuup the compression (just a bit…) lol

It's actually siphoning Linux ISOs off your computer through a browser sandbox bypass while you're watching.

You lucky citizen! I get just 40mbps.

  • rcy026rcy026 Member

No, I would not. Most of my lowend servers have a hard time even reaching 100Mbps, so even 1Gbps is a total overkill for me.

I do have servers that need 10Gbps, but those are not hosted at lowend providers.
I use lowend providers for the low price, not the performance. If 100Mbps is $1 cheaper than 1Gbps, I go with the 100Mbps, I'm not paying for something I do not use.

  • bruh21bruh21 Member, Host Rep

For my uses, 100mbps is fine as long as I don't need to restore any backups first, in which case 1gbps is usually good too.

    Also, is path.net ready yet?

  • Will boom upgrade to 10gbit?

I checked again and found that I misread the unit.
    It's 5.2 Mbps, not 5MB/s.
Hence, 50Mbps port can serve 9 viewers, 1Gbps port can serve 192 viewers.
    I won't need 10Gbps port anytime soon.

  • yes please offer 10Gbps for gratis and discount for 10Mbps or 100Mbps double bandwidth.

Does the bit-rate increase as you do more pushups per minute?

They're a Swiss ISP with a pretty small service area, but they offer up to 25G FTTH.

1Gbps is enough for any server usage, But my advise if you have the 10Gbps available for free get it If this will make you feel better.
