Yep. I also have a directory of where I keep some tools (like browser setup files, ISO's, etc) and run Nginx so that I can access it without a password/download them fast.
Here's a thought, and it maybe a mad one - how about a bunch of us chip in, buy a massive Hetzner box and fill it with media that we can connect our own media servers or stash instances to?
Sounds like a good idea.
10 trusted members, €3.70/month (assuming we can get a non-Europe/US person to buy, otherwise €4.50/month) for 20TB.
That's really silly, you get 2 TB for €3.70/month with limits on concurrent connections. You're really better off just paying €9.90/month for 5 TB from hetzner directly.
Also, some poor chap will have to go around asking for payments monthly and fill up all 10 slots. But maybe it's worth it, since he gets to look in your garden and see your wank material.
The point is the sharing, it’s not about having an allocation of space.
Then we can pickup those Intel 1275 from auction with 4 x 16 TB disks for double the price. ~60 Euros.
I like this 👌. Count me in
I’m down
I'll just check - are people actually interested in the media part, or is it just the stash part?
Won't be long before someone here realizes they can make money off plex sharing and start a summer host for that
I am OK with both
I assume everyone’s using Reddit for that sort of thing. I have thought about setting something up and running it for the community for free, but you just know people will take the piss with it and ruin it for everyone else.
Count me in.
Remember the chardonnay, get to the roots.
I'm up for something like that, been looking for that in the past
We got 6 in so far.
Maybe we need to get one of those large ass SX series servers. And get a multiuser swizzin install going.
The setup fees will be high for that one I think.
I have been eyening the hetzner forums. The larger ones come along once in a while. The SX81 is rare. Maybe @Hetzner_OL can hook us up as a special one time setup fee waiver offer for LET?
The whole thing becomes massively more complicated the moment you get a dedicated server. Storage is nice and easy.
If the majority folks want to do something with a shared server then you can put me down as interested, but I’m not having a hand in organising it as I don’t want the aggro.
Storage Boxes support subaccounts so sharing one actually works incredibly well if everyone involved trusts the one main owner of the Storage Box. While they weren't exactly made for sharing like a Storage Share, they certainly work exceptionally well when shared.
I am not going to participate in this but it makes total sense to me as an idea.
Not sure if I can be considered as a trusted member, but I'm interested with this. I'm mainly interested with the shared media as I'm just too lazy get my own.
I don't really know if anyone cares, but I can potentially just give read only access to my Google Drive for anyone to mount via rclone. It has 150TB of definitely legitimate TV shows and movies.
Holy shit, that's a lot of movies and TV. Is it all 1080p stuff?
Nah, it's all 4K in the maximum quality possible. I have a box that just constantly downloads and uploads the latest movies/shows. I am working on a 1080p Gdrive though
Ah, so if it's all 4K it's not a gigantic number of files - roughly how many hours of media (if you know).
Curious how that would work. Wouldn't that result in throttling on the account level, i.e. your account?
Check out /r/plexshares
Not actually sure, but I think Google estimates that I'm 7% of the item cap (200k files) meaning that I have 14,000 files on my Movies/TV Shows Gdrive.
Limits are usually per Google account when it comes to shared drives. That's how I also bypass the 750GB/day upload limit, I made multiple accounts and I'm cycling through each account
