All activations should complete within 48 hours as soon as we actually have the systems functional. It's about one activation per 1 minute, and all the space is there and ready. Lots of empty servers in Tokyo right now.

If someone had not attacked VirMach, he could have started the activation much earlier... 😥

We would have been close to done by now actually if we had the stagger script going, it was set to activate one service per minute, so 24 hours * 60 minutes = 1,440 services. There's a little over 2,000 left over for activations in Tokyo.

    how about Solusvm?

SolusVM is having hardware problems. Something went wrong at some point in time, probably the server overloading for 24 hours caused some hardware faults to become exasperated.

I'm still working with the datacenter to get it back up.

The data is intact, there's just something wrong with the motherboard in relation to the I/O. We're running memory tests right now.

Thanks, I'll see if I can get this to re-appear. It looks like it gets cut off because the other text is too large and on small phone screens it does that. I personally didn't notice because my phone is larger.

Most are 384MB packages. I'd say "average" ends up being maybe around 1GB RAM. We have a full cabinet in Tokyo. We're still fine and have a lot of space left, it's just not all there yet but with what is there, we should be able to get all these activated just fine.

At first it will be a little bit over-crowded because everyone is going to be running benchmarks and such but I don't suspect problems afterward.

Good joke but that's not going to create either, SolusVM is down.

@leendon said: Mine is not activated either. Virmach wants you to order $50 for two years. He can activate it for you immediately. I hope to activate it before 2023. I also believe in virmach technology. I talk to us about technical issues every day. I have been paying attention to it for too long. .

None of these have been activated by me over the last 24 hours plus. The only ones set to automatically activate are our regular plans on our website but that has ALWAYS been the case for sale versus non-sale items. So that means the cheapest plan that is supposed to auto activate is the NVMe1G for $5 per month or $50 per year. Non-sale.

And even that won't activate right now because SolusVM is down.

@VirMach said: Note to self: Don't offer pre-orders on LET at reduced prices. Only offer instant activation at higher prices on LET in the future.

Sorry guys it looks like we blew it.

Yeah, this actually is the problem. The second part of the sale was supposed to be posted way sooner, with pre-order. I did the note to self, raised the prices, only did it as instant activation because I thought at the same time I would finish all other activations and it would be a non-issue, and then everything else happened with the attacks, systems being slow in the first place, having a few hundred tickets created, and now SolusVM broken.

I forgot the whole pre-order idea being bad, I just thought if I literally had the servers ready and they were scheduled to ship out that they'd go smoothly this time.

I'm ready to stop doing sales altogether for a while after this ordeal.

SolusVM is still being looked at right now by the DC hands, I'm going to use this time to process refunds for those who no longer wish to wait, I don't want people to think we're holding their money hostage.

Everything can assume to be delayed by the number of days it hasn't received an update.

All tickets with title "refund" or anything including that word have been gone through, outside of normal refund requests (I skipped the normal ones because those are not for special packages and need SolusVM functional to process.)

All these refunds requested for specials have been processed, or replied. If you're still waiting on a refund and already put in a ticket, let me know your ticket ID here.

Also side note, I saw a few of these tickets mentioning "refund" and then saying to NOT refund, and that they can wait. I'd recommend you don't do this because if I open it up in a queue with titles matching "refund" you might end up getting a refund. The best way to indicate you are patient and want to continue waiting and do not want a refund is to do nothing.

  • I would advise to sort ubuntu 20.04 first (client area) as most use it, and netbootin.xyz can not install 20.04 and 18.04 on 384/768MB VPS so they could be most hammering servers and breaking it
I seen some wrong file system (ubuntu 18 and 20) in tokyo but I alone sorted it alone so can not tell now
ubuntu 16.04 can work from netbootin on 768MB vps btw

Ofcourse not what we want to hear, but it is what it is and it's totally understandable taking into account all the things happening last week. Hoping things will go smoother once Amsterdam servers have arrived.

  • I tried on tokyo node 039 a day ago it say in VNC:

sorted if using netbootin 16.04 and updating to 20.04

You need more than 2 GB ram (not sure exactly how much) to install ubuntu 20 via netboot. It's expected behavior.

I'd recommend against updating 16.04 to 20.04 like that. It seems to be a filesystem error most of these cases, with maybe ext3 causing the issue from what I can tell but I've barely looked into it. Just an educated guess based on previous problems I've seen in my lifetime.

We have Ubuntu 20 with EXT4 templates now, try one of those.

  • I guess he mean clientare install, but yeah netbootin need more ram depending on selected system

Are servers for storage VPS there now?
2k+ did include the storage plan, right?

This as well. This causes many more problems than most people realize. I've seen so many problems where in the end it's the memory even if the customer disagrees.

Ofcourse it's oversold, overloaded is a different topic tho.
These prices make ZERO sense if you don't oversell, wtf?

FYI. You may want use xfs for storage plans as ext4 default bytes per node setting wastes quite a lot of space on overheads, or choose ext4 largefile

    I learnt this from here.

A virtual private server makes zero sense (most the time) if something isn't oversold. If bandwidth wasn't oversold by every host in the world, you would get about 100GB instead of 3TB bandwidth per month. I can get you a more accurate number but that's just in my head from what I've seen. Or instead of 1Gbps line you would get 1Mbps on anything that's like $10-15 per year.

RAM is most likely oversold up to 2x without causing problems (usually lower) but it can be more depending on the type of plans sold. We don't really oversell RAM, but we're going to have to start overselling a little bit due to Ryzen's memory limits. This is after a lot of math and testing though. For example, we'll of course check the memory usage beforehand. Right now we mostly have 256GB RAM nodes and they're probably using 128GB or less RAM on all of them, because we didn't really oversell RAM. Disk isn't oversold, we don't do thin LVM or any tricks. IPv4 isn't oversold as it's dedicated. CPU is pretty much guaranteed oversold unless the provider is giving you something like 1/4th of a core or 1/2 a core on all plans up to like $5 per month, otherwise it HAS to be fair share. And again, the concept of a VPS doesn't make sense without overselling but I'm sure you understand this, my reply isn't directed at you, just adding on to what you said.

I think people should start using the term over-oversold or something

Good news: SolusVM panel is working
Bad news: I got temporarily banning by Cloudflare after reset password

In many cases, I know it's temporary, so I'll wait :)

(edit) To those who are in the same situation
You may have forgotten that you can reboot from the client area ;)
