Can you run a benchmark test with yabs.sh
Simply run this command
curl -sL yabs.sh | bash
Since this threat started with "Encoding" I encoded a 22 min h264 videoclip to h265 on Netcup and Dignus. As you know h265 encoding is pretty power hungry and slow.
Netcup VPS: 2 cores, 8 GB RAM ("Root-Server" with dedicated cores)
Dignus VPS: 4 cores, 8 GB RAM (dedicated/not dedicated, who knows
The speed is about what you would expect: Twice as many fps on Dignus as on Netcup and around the half encoding time (~ 44 min on Dignus / ~ 94 min on Netcup).
I got the same machine as @kim1406 mentioned:
Here a Linux CPU report. As I ve already posted above: It's NOT the claimed Xeon Gold 6148.
Not sure if this can clear anything.
But it's interesting how different the experiences with DignusData are. I myself like my 6 € VPS (used a code from another thread here which isn't working any longer) and can't complain about anything.
Sure thing.
Performing Geekbench 5 benchmark test. This?may take a cGeekbench 5 Benchmark Test:
Test | Value
Single Core | 734
Multi Core | 1442
Full Test | https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/2092548
2xcpu, unknown to every method, forget what i used last time, procinfo and others only show virtualization cpu.
Thanks. What is the location?
Estonia I'm pretty sure.
Cheap == Hetzner
You can go with their cloud plans (below $10)
I'm encoding using Handbrake on Windows Server 2012. I'm getting slow speed. One Animi eps. of 20:51 minutes takes 02:23:25 to finish.
Do you think on Linux Os could be faster?
I use ffmpeg on Windows and Linux and coudn't say there is a difference but I have never compared both systems on the same computer with same encoding job. But I would say it does not make a significant difference.
02:23:25 for an Anime of 20 min is indeed very long if your film is shot in FullHD, but I would call it "normal" if you encode a 4k video with codec h265 preset veryslow and use some tune and filter options, which means: It all depends.
So, you should check and optimize your Handbrake encoding settings for the desired quality and file size, I don't think it's a matter of operation system.
My video file is 1440x1080, and I'm encoding with x265 fast encoder preset. Same settings in another dedicated server will finish in half the time.
