Wait for the incremental backups with Borg integration which DA are working on. Hopefully by the summer. Game changer.

@smtalk will this just integrate with the current backup system or would it allow a user to restore their own backups?

Curious if it and jetbackup now share the same space.

We haven't decided if that's going to be integrated into Admin Backup/Transfer. Users should be able to restore their files (if allowed), but we're still designing that part, as security should go first...

sounds good.... I'd like some kind of built in backup to work with rsync.net with incremental backups....

I hear JetBackup Alpha release will be out within 2 weeks....

  • I couldn't read all 20 pages but I had a feedback - "complaint".

Lack of email filters and forwarders by default (In exim level not sieve) in the user panel.

Especially when I was transferring accounts / migrating from cPanel, accounts with filters, filters vanished in the thin air. No filters, no warnings in logs / or anything about that.

Think about the positives, too. The majority of the users are happy as long as WordPress runs fine. With a cronjob to update htaccess, OLS allows to have LSCache for free.

It would not be much hard to add a second auto: install.sh auto OLS or something like that.

Another issue with Linked IPs. It would be nice to have a column in Admin IP Manager indicating which IPs have linked IPs.

When you have a lot of IPs, it gets troublesome clicking multiple times on each one to find them.

  • I know Ubuntu isn't really officially supported by DA but for some reason the installation didn't output user info in the end. 3 times in a row on fresh installs. Now reverted back to Debian 9 and it's fine. Just a little heads up if you will.

Did you use linux 64-bit static bins? If not - please try setting it to linux 64-bit.

  • Have anyone tried https://bu-backup.com.ar/ for backing up?

Never heard of it, if it does the job, great. Not a lot of information provided on the site though so would need to be tested thoroughly.

@desfire we have been looking at it...

JetBackup broke our normal DA backup procedure...

As long as you were not using it in a production environment before being sure it works for you, what is the issue? It's an Alpha release. Give them time, they are a good team and will get it working smoothly.

You were not running it on production, were you?

Done! SSH/Crons and FastCGI for now: https://www.directadmin.com/features.php?id=2740.

It won't work with LXC/OpenVZ containers at this time. Virtualizations like KVM/XEN/VMware/Hyper-V/Virtualbox are totally fine!

I want Acronis to hurry up and release their plugin. I've been backing up my DA installs with Acronis now for months, no issues and it works great.

JetBackup for Linux works great too, wish people would give them a chance to fix the bugs though. Their panel is excellent, DA is new territory for them.

Oh no doubt it does work well it looks like they've got a good product. We just already had Acronis licenses for other servers so I decided to continue using it.

I tried but keep on getting:

    Could not connect remote host.

@jord how are you backing up DA with Acronis please? How are you restoring accounts?

He is doing it probably manually from the main Acronis panel. There is no plugin yet.

@smtalk , we are hoping for this too. Did Acronis contacted you about this already? Can you please coordinate with them?

A couple of our large partners have contacted them, with no luck so far... But I am more than willing to get in touch with them, to see if they have any interest.

I'm going to be brutally honest here, based on the numbers. DirectAdmin is a very small market share -- just a few % compared to cPanel. It's like comparing a kid's lemonade stand to Starbucks.

The fact JetBackup is willing to develop a DirectAdmin plugin requires a huge leap of faith on their part, and we've done everything we can to expedite the development. Anything they've needed from us has been delivered very quickly... As in, less than 24 hours.

Equally impressive is the pushback from all the problems in the alpha release... it shows the genuine interest in their product and the need for it to be done right-- sooner than later. I'm glad JetBackup is here because this forum is no-holds-barred when it comes to giving their opinion.

I'm not criticizing at all.. this is synergy from all directions. I'm sure DA isn't nearly as developed/sophisticated as JetBackup is used to, yet they have never once made a public or private complaint about this. I'm pretty sure all the blame can't fall on them.

TLDR; Give JetBackup some credit, but don't hold back either.

We backup the entire server so we can do bare metal restores and also our clients files. So if a client deletes something by accident we can just login to our Acronis panel and restore that one file.

We also use DAs account backup to incase we have to restore a whole account.

my only real annoyance with DA over cpanel is that add-on domains must use a different document root. Often domain pointers (parked domains in cpanel) are proposed as a solution, but the problem I have with that is that all domains are included in the LE SSL cert, which I dont want. I want separate SSL certs for each domain alias, but I want them to use the same document root.

I either want the ability to set the document root for add on domains to an existing one, or the ability to set domain pointers to use individual LE SSL certs.

  • @DA_Mark,

We're grateful for the relationship we have established with DirectAdmin while we continue to develop JetBackup on the DA control panel. The DA community continues to be tremendously helpful throughout our development process as we continue to acclimate with DirectAdmin.

Thank you for taking the time to test (and provide expeditious feedback for) the Alpha release of JetBackup for DirectAdmin!

All feedback we receive is vital and helps our team identify bugs and release fixes faster, as we work towards our stable release.

We look forward to hearing more from the community as we continue the development of JetBackup for DirectAdmin.

    Highest Regards,
    Anton, JetApps Team.

A cPanel account restore via JetBackup for DirectAdmin? No.

  • So I realised it was my fault and make https://bu-backup.com.ar/ to work, it is really nice, if anyone is looking for DA backup alternatives it is a really good one

I can tell you that, admin wise, it's close to a beta.
Client end, haven't done my tests yet. Step by step. In the other thread I explained that we have been testing Jetbackup very heavily and reporting bugs which are getting fixed in the same day. We'll also keep the community updated with our progress with Jetbackup.

I believe that's no longer the case. Do test the pre-release binaries.
