They will end resale of Kimsufi and disallow more than 3 servers per customer:
looks like this is a general thing, not related to just this new GRA lineup.
Anyone having more than 3 of Kimsufi servers currently, will not be able to renew until the count is reduced to 3 or lower. Also people getting their server via a reseller better already prepare a migration plan or something.
"Looks like". Speculating is fun. I don't believe for a second that they'll force existing Kimsufi owners to start removing their servers (not being able to renew until 3 or less). That wouldn't make sense.
Datacenter looks pretty big.
That is literally what Oles said in the Tweet rm_ posted
@rm_ that pretty much encourages to cancel pending orders.. and prioritize orders. So one has to choose between multiple of KS2G/KS16G if that is true... What is CB?
Does anyone know where the new DC in Gravelines is exactly located? Like Lat/Long coordinates?
Anyone bought a 16G and received it? It seems they didn't deploy any of them yet.
Why? Are you planning on launching an intercontinental missile attack if you don't get your 2.99 KS :-)
In LET IRC someone said it likely means "Customer Billing" and put simply just a number of services per customer.
@tr1cky They haven't built them yet. I asked for how many they got them and they said negative amount, so nobody has gotten them yet.
Oles responded to my tweet in record time, looks like us US customers WILL be seeing EU servers soon...
And now we have a YES, it will apply:
and it will be mandatory, non-optional:
So i must pay more or did i have a choice?
I think this is a big mistake they are doing. They should have made these Kimsufis 4.5EUR with the filtering included, not 3 EUR now and rise it to 4.5 EUR later.
The price increase will be a big PR mess for them, could negate the effect of the 3 EUR PR effect.
@jtr can you tweet to him and ask clarification about the 3 KS servers rule whether it applies to all KS orders, existing servers, and new orders and can old/in deployment servers be renewed if there are more than 3 KS servers?
@infinity580 looks like the price increase is 0.50 - 3 eur/month
The price increase has been announced here: http://forum.ovh.co.uk/showthread.php?t=6661
If you pay for one year in advance, the DDOS protection is free.
"However, if you sign up for a whole year, then DDoS protection is included, so the service price does not change."
Can you rephrase that to be a bit clearer?
I think rds100 is right, they should have promoted the new filtering technique and included it in those special price Kimsufis already. They could have made 4,49€ (no VAT) and it still would have been dirt cheap.
I feel this is not the right way to behave towards a customer, it just feels a little dishonest. Anyway, I'll still keep it if it's gonna be a N2800 and run it at full load 24/7.
Think what he means is let's say I currently have 4 in the KS range before this new offer came about, will I be able to keep them and order up to another 3 of the new offer or will I not even be allowed to keep the 4 existing ones and give one back to keep it at 3 max.
I think it's an important point yet to get any clarity.
@markku no matter how well you announce it in advance. It's not written anywhere on the order form.
There will be thousands of customers and many of thems will be screaming "bloody murder, this big corporation is screwing us by playing bait and switch, we've been scammed, etc., etc.". As i said they should have included this filtering fee in the price from the start, after all they know about it in advance. Adding it later will be big PR hit.
@jtr What I mean.... is that do they have a rule now that only a total of any 3 Kimsufi servers allowed when renewing? If you have more than 3 KS servers, you can't renew? Does this rule affect existing/old customers as well? Or is it 3 Kimsufi servers per server model? Ie. 3 KS2G, 3 KS4G, 3 KS16G... or a total of any KS plans (1 KS2G, 1 KS4G, 1 KS16G) ?
@rds100 I agree. OVH has been notoriously bad at changing things, announcing things, keeping the customer in the loop.
It's not enough to announce price changes only on their forums, for god's sake.
I've been their customer for several years, and never once have I received an email from them announcing changes.
It's ugly. But the prices can't be beat, so the customer stays a customer
@rds100 And Ole expects everyone to follow their Tweets/Forum where they have announced the price increases.. It's not anywhere in their official OVH.com pages or in customer emails... They're just going to do it at once without any kind of communication!
Yes, they need some people who know about PR and how to manage these things.
I don't say that they will loose customers over this. They probably won't, or at least not many. The price is still unbeatable, even after the increase. But their public image will be damaged by this.
OVH's public image can still be damaged even more?
Ole tweeted that the rule affects only NEW KS servers... but still not clear whether it affects any new KS servers or per server type and whether its for new orders and for old orders as well.
I am perfectly fine with waiting a few days for my server. Guys. It is something new, a dedi for 3€. What the hell are you complaining about? Don't want to wait so long? Go for a dedi that's more expensive.
They even said the delivery will start from the 29th of July (even though on the german site it said 24h first).
Every year when the new iPhone comes out there are a lot of people who have to wait like 3-4 weeks to get theirs.
So stop posting and just wait.
I never get the point of such posts. First of all, I don't see anyone "complaining", all we do is try to figure out OVH and their weird restrictions and plans. Second, if you are "sick of reading" or something like that, then just stop reading and not follow this thread. Not so difficult, really?
Personally I don't want to order a server, then 2 days later go to the same page and see a geographical restriction that wasn't there before, which means I can't order, and will have the order cancelled. But that's just me.
