    Damn you still before me...

    When did you order?

  • jcalebjcaleb Member

    Too bad I'm too slow

  • xsetxset Member

@jack what time does your order page show? Aren't OVH orders all in the same TZ? For example mine shows 25-07-2013 21:28 ... but that's CET TZ OVH uses

  • xsetxset Member

@tr1cky what time does your OVH order page tell? 20:05 CET ?

  • tr1ckytr1cky Member

Well, I looked up my mails when the first mail arrived, order page just says it in German time aswell.

Well, the Windows install messed up, something about their WIndows Server 2012 images is not right, this error appeared during install:

    Win 2008 setup.exe failed (error-install.log exist): "No whattodo.cmd detected"

I also got an automatic email that a technical will investigate the case and that meanwhile all the functionality of the server is locked and I can't do anything. I hope they have seperate technicans for deploying the servers and this stuff, else I have to wait some days to get the server running again.

    I ordered 25.07.13 19,55 and I haven't receivedmy server yet :(

I also had this error when i tried to install windows on the server

Took around 10 minutes after i got an email that the case was closed lol

@joodle but they actually do anything ? DId you get Windows running on it or not?

I installed Linux, never tried to install windows again

  • tr1ckytr1cky Member

Hm... okay, I actually missread the email a little: If a technican will do something in this time I can't do anything on the server. I'll just wait some time and if nothing happens install Debian again.

  • xsetxset Member

    @tr1cky u got a dual core ?

they are not allowed to exclude EU ppl from the service, but can exclude everyone else.

They can exclude any country they like, even EU ones. They have the right to sell to who they want and can exclude any country/person they don't want to sell to. There is no law that says someone has to sell you something.

  • rds100rds100 Member

@asterisk14 actually no, there is some EU directive which says they have to sell to ALL EU countries, not allowed to discriminate based on country.

Don't think so, a seller is not obligated to sell you anything. If you go into a shop in the UK, the shop owner does not HAVE to sell you what you want, if he doesn't want to.

You're right in the general case that the seller can choose with whom he wants to make a contract with. But his decision must not be based solely on the country of the contracting party. That is where EU law does bind the seller. See: http://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/shopping/shopping-abroad/buying-services/index_en.htm

  • I'm interested in the miniSP, however I don't know which location is best. Can those that have bought the new miniSP, please run this bench and the location that you picked.
    wget freevps.us/downloads/bench.sh -O - -o /dev/null|bash

    Thanks

  • xsetxset Member

@centaur depends how long you can wait for the setup...

  • xsetxset Member

@talsit can you run this benchmark

    wget freevps.us/downloads/bench.sh -O - -o /dev/null|bash

? And is your mini-sp location SBG?

  • Just found this page http://proof.ovh.net

So will do some tests. But I think they will be similar in connection latency around the world.

    Thanks

  • So are they requiring id for all new ordes? Im a lil late on thos promo. And is it worth trying for us custies?

  • xsetxset Member

@ipkiller You can order, but it will be cancelled if you're not located in EU.

  • really tempting. too bad I am from Asia so this is not available for me.

  • I have tested the latency from a few locations,
From Canada, US (Atlanta), South Africa, Sweden, Hong Kong: RBX had the least amount of latency.
From Central Europe (Germany, Italy): SBG had the least amount of latency.

So if most of your traffic is from Europe, then SBG would be the best. If they are from around the world, then RBX. However, the amount of extra latency between the two among the locations are really negligible (about <10ms extra either way). And they both have really nice networks for connecting from around the world.

So either way, it seems it hangs on how long you want to wait for the mini SP. However, it seems OVH's estimates are not very accurate.

    @centaur mini-sp 1-2 days@ SBG ,, 3-4 days @ RBX, ks 1-10 days@GRA..

They're swamped with orders right now, better give them double time for installing the servers.

  • xsetxset Member
    edited July 2013

RBX seems to have pings around 47 ms from Europe, 57 ms to RBX.

Testing from another location... now I get 40 ms for both SBG and RBX

Better to get mini-sps from SBG, so you don't have to wait for them to build servers:)

They sent me another message that they will investigate in the next 15 minutes to complete the Windows install, this was an hour ago.

  • ciderocidero Member

I have the same issue when trying to install Windows: "No whattodo.cmd detected".
Installing Linux again worked fine. Does anyone know why it is not possible to select Windows 2008 R2? I can only select 2008 or 2012 but not the R2 version (where I have a key for).

  • tr1ckytr1cky Member

it's not a key problem, tried both 2008 and 2012.
