You're talking to someone who has services from alpha and woot and am rather happy with what I get for the cost. I definitely don't need enterprise level uptime SLA or any crazy n+1 premium shit.
I will read your review and check them out one day, I have a bit of a list now to check out. I've pretty much tried every host on LEB including the new CC shit hosts. My expectations are directly proportional to the price paid.
Haha that's a good mindset tbh In the end you always get what you pay for.
It's the only mindset to have. This is low end box, where the specs are low, there should be ZERO hand holding support, the price is low, there should be ZERO entitlement, and tickets should be able to go for a week without answer before jumping up and down.
Unfortunately it's full of people who expect too much for too little lol
That is what @ramnet has TinyKVM for.
What package are you wanting? The only coupons that generally don't work are the 512MB ones. The ones for VDR4 and higher were still valid last I checked. Even years later.
This would be Seattle, not LA, though. And openvz on old kernel. But you'd get decent IPV4's included and fast network and storage. Oh, and they respond to tickets in minutes to hours. Stop with this one week support expectation for low end providers. That's ridiculous and not acceptable for any one or any use case.
Thanks sir/ma'am, you're right I was only trying the smaller plan. I'll aim higher. My expectations will increase accordingly.
Nobody mentioned WootHosting yet? They also offer resource pools (..)
Dude, too far. We're assholes, but we're not outright malicious.
LOL! I have about 5 resource pools from woot, they're fine for the price and for setting up what I like to call shit-vms.
Forget using them for anything remotely serious but to use for testing, why not. I also have NFP's and hostmybytes pools. Cheap toys for me to play with.
Honestly you can't even get a transactional email to Gmail from any woot ip. It's that bad. For running backup plex/jackett/sonarr/radarr/lidarr instances it's perfect and rarely goes down.
As long as it's cheap and not an outright scam, I'll try it out in the spirit of low end
EDIT2: s/can/can't
Your dual personalities are bizarre. You'll shit all over one provider who is cheap and crappy, and then come back and say "it works for what it is" when it comes to a known spammer and borderline reseller of not-as-advertised services. Do you work for CC yet?
It's not dual personalities.
It's called marriage syndrome. A guy may really dislike his wife but ends up defending her when some other person badmouths/wrongs her because you just kinda have to.
In other words, he has invested too much of ego into that host that he has to defend it for his own sake rather than the host's.
LOL well, here's the thing.. I've said numerous times that woot and alpha are shit hosts who spam and oversell like a mofo. I've also said that for the price paid what else can you expect?
I still stand by my position, not because I have to or am obliged to, no marriage, no shill relationships, just my opinion.
I've said it before and I'll state it again - if you want cheap toys then buy the cheap shit and understand that it will be inherently shit. If you want premium then pay according. I know I'm not the only person here who understands that.
LES > LEB Shit Tier
Yes, this. LES all say explicitly no support.
I've been impressed with excellent IPv6 performance on LES (deepnetsolutions LA).
LES is the perfect example of low cost, low expectations. It works, it's cheap and definitely gets the job done at the lowest price, at the expense of IPv4 and support.
LEB shit hosts are mostly low cost but seem to set the wrong expectations, such as performance, support, uptime or "premium". We all know they suck, but they seem to do well when they don't deadpool. They provide IPv4 and support to a degree, proportional to the difference between the price compared to the LES options.
LET hosts are slightly better when they have no affiliation with CC, and the expectations increase with the price. We all know who the good hosts are and basically none of them are on LEB.
The point is there is choice, you use your wallet to make that choice.
Yeah, but they do that themselves.
From the LEB post of alpharacks:
I noticed this one here today: https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/155267/vps-resource-pools-kvm-vps-openvz-7-los-angeles
$5 per month buys 2 ipv4 addresses, 2 shared cpu cores, 2 gb ram, 30 gb ssd, 2 tb traffic, and possibly some tales to tell. Looks like their LA node is at Psychz. Mixed reviews, company appears to be operating out of Indonesia. They've been (marginally) here on LET for a few years with recent / previous offers involving datawagon so I dunno, but if w**t and alpo-racks are your cup of tea ... then ikihost may be more grist for your "I'll buy that for a dollar" yolo mill.
That's exactly my point, the host sets an expectation that it's 24x7 support, etc - which I suppose is essentially true, they do seem to operate support 24x7 but definitely not any sort of quick turnaround.
Whoever runs alpha and woot are pretty good at marketing, that's my main thought.
Thanks for your input there, that was well thought out I actually have these guys on my NO list, mainly because their offers are flawed and needed to be corrected so many times, I just wonder how fucking hopeless they might be when it comes to running a few servers. As for based in indonesia.. well.. the hosts I settle with tend to be AU/US/UK based, so read into that what you will.
At LET prices?? 🤣🤣
You can get a Perth LES for $4/year (openvz though and NAT, but it's still Perth)
LES in Brisbane would be super prem.
Didn't know that, wow!
Have you checked dediserve? https://manage.dediserve.com/cart/cloud-resources/ not exactly low-end but maybe interesting.
Dediserve were originally straight outta Dublin, and more recently acquired by iomart who are apparently of the Scottish persuasion.
your long term archive strategy relies heavily on making FOIA requests to 3 of the 5 eyes?
</fortune cookie soothsayer>
EDIT2:
... in about 20 years - like a glacier on quaaludes:
Looks prem, thanks for that
Try another cookie
We call them prawns, literally nobody calls them shrimp.
That sounds like a Texas accent?
Wasn't that the brits?
My wife is Canadian, nice eh?
They like to do things with sheep that's best left not talked about...
Is resource pool similar to cloud VPS or different?
Think of it as a VPS reseller. You are allocated a bunch of resources which you can distribute across a couple VMs. You get charged for all of it even if not using the resources compared to for example DO.
We will be available in Perth in next few months
TIL @BinaryLane is on LET.
They've been on here for 5 years in March.
Hahaha yeah, and somehow I've never managed to come across anything until today that gave away they were on LET. I'm more surprised than you are, trust me haha
