.Net has a lot of traction due to C# and to a lesser degree some other languages. As Microsoft also supports Mono and as .Net is on par with jvm in terms of speed (and often even faster) I expect .Net to continue growing.
Another factor is that many companies love it for a variety of reasons.
.Net is (quite) cross platform and it is (largely) open source.
Disclaimer: I'm not a .Net fan, use it only occasionally, and distrust Microsoft just like many others. But we should be fair and should not use FUD.
