Scandinavian Airlines, SAS, is installing high-speed wifi on their A320neos. Partnering with Viasat using the Ka-band.
I've flown a few times and always gotten 10Mbit/s+.
They even encourage you to watch Netflix!

But yeah, to OP: Just use Spotify offline or whatever, don't be an ass when bandwidth is limited and shared with all other passengers and potentially planes on the same sat.
You know, it's not that hard. If you want to be legal about it, consider purchasing a one month subscription to YouTube Premium so that you can download videos and watch them offline.
Perhaps he wanted the bandwidth so he could accidentally chargeback his server
Don't you have limits on free Wifi anyway? You either get cut of eventually or you pay, a LOT, really A LOT.
VPN will not help with your data limitation.
And don’t forget that it’s not only airplanes that share the available sat bandwidth. This was in use on ships way before the first plane ever got a dish installed.
Inmarsat specifically is traditionally a supplier for marine industry.
Youtube-dl prior to flying, even if you circumvent the primitive domain block do you really think there is no QoS in effect? These systems aren't designed by click next Microsoft admins. I flew GA the other month from LHR to Jakarta and it was hard enough checking front-page of hacker news nevermind streaming, still to get email was worth the $20.
You can buy your own airplane
I can imagine him getting detained on landing
12 hours of flight ? Just sleep.
Renewing topic for 2023 season. Has anything changed in terms KA band availability especially over the Arctic sea north of Russia's borders from scandinavia up untill korean peninsula.
I see that the airline now has better WLAN tiers that especially allow VPNs and other extra stuff. No speed guarantees this time but its shown as "unlimited data". Flight time is about 15 hours and 30 mins. Its clearly labeled as satelite based this time.
Netflix Downloads, YouTube Downloads and Spotify Offline exists. Download before your flight.
this thread just went up after 4 years nearly lmao
I like that Emirates give you 20MB over an hour for free. It's nice to be able to quickly catch up on mail and social media just to change things up before starting on the 4th film!
he wanna watch youporn for sure !!!!! DON'T LIE TO US !!!!
I'm a nervous flier. In fact its pure horror. And I have few ways of coping with it.
I either drink myself to assfaced, drug myself so I can sleep the entire flight or be a zombie otherwise, or my preference, distract my thoughts with internet browsing or using discord/twitch.tv to chat/watch live stuff with other people on the ground.
I'm gonna renew this thread because I have another 13 hours flight coming in the summer this year. I'm currently looking into UDPspeeder + OpenVPN.
why this thread came to live after almost 1 year
Order ID 69420
Please double my bandwidth
cuz its relevant again. :P
I'd rather not make a new thread for same discussion to save headache for mods.
Not to mention, that the previous info is still relevant and some people might have new ideas and information.
