80% of the connections are from Online.net, Scaleway and Arubacloud servers hosting/doing something shady under my IP. This is why we can't have nice things. I ran this for 3 days and got 5 DMCA letters and 1 abuse email from Hetzner.

In case anyone wondering, it's this project: http://www.vpngate.net/en/

idk.. maybe something more than from tor which primary purpose is to access hidden sites that are.. well.. hidden for a reason. But most of all, I expected users.. not servers or bots.

That's the reality. Even most of the people who publicly celebrate legitimate and noble uses of such infrastructure, I would propose, really just want a moral justification for a path they can exploit for reasons that are much more difficult to defend.

The good uses are the minority. Maybe they're worth the rest, but I seriously doubt their numbers are high.

  • You looked at this site:

Also, a recent study showed that over 90% of traffic on TOR is communications between underground freedom fighters, struggling to give birth to democracy around the world.

Or was it child porn...I forget the details, but anyway, one of those two.

I am surprised the privacy warriors are not all over you for that already, it's been a good 15 minutes since you posted it.

This, but of course you have to accept that minority is more important for the betterment of the world.

I got 2 weeks of logs and ip headers of every connection to present to any court. Even if something does happen, I'm not the one taking blame for that "kind of material", therefore I won't be a nonce much less go to such place.

Law enforcement works reallllllllllllllllll slow. Don't expect something to happen today and 2 weeks of log retention going to help you months down the road.

Nobody really knows what the Chinese use their VPS servers for but anybody working in support automatically assumes for proxy/tunnel/VPN purposes.

I already shut it down the moment I noticed those dedicated servers leeching it. Anything that has happened past 3 days I have full copy of it. Though i'm pretty sure none of these people would use a logging free VPN to browse illegal porn or to buy/sell drugs. That's all for TOR, and even if they did, the chances of me ever hearing about it is small to none.

Maybe the quality of users increase if you advertise it with:

100% anonymous - no user data logging!

I use a VPN, but wouldn't run such service, at least not for people I don't know personally. And IMHO, running it on any server in Germany is extremely high risk.

If I was a journalist and had something to do on the Internet that required ... extreme privacy, the last thing would be to connect directly to a vpn service. I'd have paid on HF for a hacked server with some shitcoin I bought locally to use as an intermediate hop (at least 1).

Yes, it is said that 94% of the traffic is malicious by some people, others say it is child porn and others that is torrents.

This build up a huge majority, of over 270% of bad users out of the 100% which use it.
I am also pretty sure there are other people that know fo' shu'e this is only librul agenda paid by China, Iran and the terrorists, since there are many users in China and Iran, not to mention many other people which have their own majorities in the upper 80's and lower 90's.

stefeman said: I already shut it down the moment I noticed those dedicated servers leeching it.

Of course it is the dedicated servers, you do not expect to simply run a honeypot and immediately get the IPs of the "perpetrators", people line in Tor (which uses a lot of online and the like), and such gates, all originating in a VPS bought in someone else's name or with fake data from a provider near you...

You forget that people are stupid. They are using a V.P.N. afterall and they heard that makes them invincible. Still i guess the majority of connections you got was simply scrapers, spammers, exploit scanners and similar junk.

At first i read it like this too but i think he just got an email from Hetzner. He's not running it there. If he did all i'd have to say is: BALLS.

I wonder if I should post the logs here for the fun of it.. I got full packet logs from the entire time. It's about 30 GB but if compressed well, can be fit into 2 GB. Yes I'm an evil person.

You could probably do a traffic analysis, or something along those lines, complete with pie charts!, if you had the tools for it. One way of going about it, without compromising the privacy of the 2 legitimate users of VPNGate out of 1000 abusers.

LOL. Actually that would be a fun exercise. To bad i am unable to download much of anything. Besides you really should'nt without at least anonymizing the source IPs.
